LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix announced ‘The Witcher’ with the idea that it could create something similar to ‘Game of Thrones’ for its streaming platform. The world of ‘Witcher’ started with a lot of promise as the first season of the aforementioned series began on a good note and viewers felt that it had legs to perform even better. Fortunately, they were right and the second season of ‘The Witcher’ turned out to be better in every way. However, it seems the series has been going through a rough patch from a while now and the reactions to ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ seems to have made things even worse.

The newest series in ‘The Witcher’ universe released on Netflix on Sunday, December 25, and sees superstar Michelle Yeoh playing an elf fighting against an unstoppable power. The trailers and all the looks that were shared by Netflix received a thunderous response from viewers and everyone felt that the franchise is on course to have another hit in its briefcase. But things aren’t going as the streaming service would have wanted to because the show’s ‘Audience Score’ on Rotten Tomatoes is one of the worst audience scores of all time for a Netflix original series.

With more than 1400 ratings on the review site, the ‘Audience Score’ for ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ is at 8%, making it literally the worst audience score for a significant Netflix series original. In July 2022, the horrific audience score of 22% (now 26%) for ‘Resident Evil’ shocked everyone, but it seems ‘Blood Origin’ has shattered all expectations and touched a new low. However, one good thing for the series is that it is currently the #1 show on Netflix, indicating that viewers are flocking to the streaming service to watch the highly-anticipated drama. But the audience score gives a clear picture that they are not necessarily liking the newest addition to ‘The Witcher’ franchise.

Now, there can be a lot of reasons for the show’s debacle and one of them is Henry Cavill’s exit from the original series. Fans are not happy with the actor’s exit and are not shying away from showing how annoyed they are with the decision. On the other hand, viewers who have seen the show are sharing their ‘disappointing’ reactions on social media, calling it one of the worst additions to ‘The Witcher’ franchise. Apart from viewers, even critics are not leaving any stone unturned to bash the “mediocre” show.

The official synopsis of ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ reads, “Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin tells a story lost to time - one of seven outcasts who unite against an unstoppable power that took everything from them. Their blood quest gives rise to a prototype Witcher in a conflict that brings about the ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

Michelle Yeoh plays the role of Scian in the series while Sophia Brown portrays Elle. Other actors to feature in the series include Laurence O’Fuarain (Fjall), Mirren Mack (Empress Merwyn), Lenny Henry (Chief Druid Balor), and Lizzie Annis (Zacare).

Season 1 of ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ is currently streaming on Netflix.
