Should the Weeknd collaborate with Bad Bunny instead of Maluma? Fans rally for other artistes after teaser post
Contemporary R&B singer the Weeknd and reggaeton singer Maluma have something cooking, according to a recent teaser shared by both artistes, according to our earlier report. The two artistes may be collaborating together on new music but not all fans are agreeing with the collab.
Without any caption on both his Instagram and on Twitter, on November 4, The Weeknd shared a photo of himself posing alongside Maluma in what appears to be more of a cover art than just a casual snap of two musical colleagues. What's more is that the teaser exists on both artistes' social media platforms, alluding to a promotional upload of sorts. Check out the teaser below.
Fans were shocked and excited that the Weeknd is mixing his music up with a Latin artiste. "SPANISH TAKEOVER LETS GET IT," said a fan in all caps to which another replied, "He gonna slide in his verse like “hola como esta” and imma transcend."

However, not all fans are happy about the Weeknd's choice for collaboration, though, and would've preferred to see Bad Bunny as a featured artiste. "We wanted bad bunny but this is ok too" said a fan to which another replied, "This." One fan wrote, "bad bunny is better.." "We want a collab with bad bunny too Abel," added another fan.

Another artiste to be deemed as worthy of a collab with the Weeknd by fans is Anuel. "Anuel is the king of reggaeton, am not taking any of this Maluma BS," a fan says. One fan even tapped in Justin Bieber as another suggestion. "WHERE IS THE COLLAB WITH JUSTIN BIEBER," the fan wrote.
Why the fan preference for Bad Bunny over Maluma, though? Each to his own, and social media platforms are a space for fans to voice their opinions, but both Bad Bunny and Maluma are reputable artistes. Considering that Maluma has been active in the industry since 2010 while Bad Bunny debuted in 2016, it is surprising that the preference lies with the latter.
Bad Bunny's discography also includes less material than Maluma. We think Bad Bunny's popularity could have something to do with a recent guest spot at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show, where the singer performed alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Since then, Bad Bunny has been noticably engaged on his social media platform and fans have been excited at every post: riding the hype wave is the best proven way to get your name and material out there.
But that doesn't mean to say either Bad Bunny or Maluma have better music. Fans are excited and love Bad Bunny's music and that's what counts. If the pair are working together on their music, it will mark the first time that The Weeknd and Maluma have collaborated together on a project. Additionally, it will be the first time the Weeknd's music will get spiced by the sounds of Latin music.
Although, the Weeknd is not a new contender to the collaborative game and has worked with many renowned artists before. He has worked on the 2019 single 'Price on My Head' alongside Canadian rapper Nav. In 2018, The Weeknd collaborated with Nicki MInaj on 'Thought I Knew You' and with Travis Scott's 'Skeletons' featuring Pharrell Williams and Tame Impala. Earlier collaborative songs featured artistes such as Beyoncé, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey and more.
The Weeknd recently reunited with Oneohtrix Point Never, for a new song, titled 'No Nightmares'. The track features on Oneohtrix's new LP, 'Magic Oneohtrix Point Never', which arrived on October 30.
The Weeknd's latest post sees him returning to his music-making after a humorous Halloween celebration. The singer dressed as Eddie Murphy's famous character The Nutty Professor for Halloween. Check out some of his Insta posts here and here.
