Who is Zania Alaké? Michigan banker on 'The Voice' picks John Legend, fans love her 'beautiful sultry voice'

John Legend told her that he would love to have her on his team as her set was magical and that they could always figure out how to navigate this competition together

The blind auditions of ‘The Voice’ Season 20 are currently in its third week and on Episode 5 of the singing reality show, we saw a lot of drama among the judges and a talented lot of singers trying to secure a place on the show. Out of the many who performed during the auditions, Zania Alaké managed to impress the coaches with her cover of Anita Baker's ‘Sweet Love’.

The 34-year-old crooner from Detroit, Michigan, soon got a chair-turn from John Legend as he got floored by her soulful deep voice. As Legend thoroughly enjoyed Alaké’s performance, Kelly Clarkson also followed the same route and turned around her big red chair. However, Nick Jonas and Blake Shelton decided to not press the red buzzer as they did not turn at all.

Who is Zania Alaké?

As soon as Alaké’s impressive performance ended, John Legend told her that he would love to have her on his team as her set was magical and that they could always figure out how to navigate this competition together. On the other hand, Nick shared the reason why he did not turn around. “Since my team is about to get full, I got to be extra picky but you are phenomenal.” After much deliberation, Alaké picked John Legend in the end.

Zania Alaké was born and raised in Detroit and is a banker by profession but is passionate about singing. The mother of two released her debut single ‘Tempted’ in September 2020 that sheds light on being with one person but thinking about another.

The song is part of her EP called ‘Finally’ which is scheduled to release soon. Alaké is a veteran entertainer and has been working as a background vocalist for about a decade. The Detroit crooner has also collaborated with local artistes and R&B singers like Phil Perry and Tyrese.

‘Beautiful sultry voice and stage presence'

Alaké not only earned praises from the coaches but also got a thumbs up from social media users. Speaking on the same lines, one user tweeted, “Zania Alaké us good taste. Great song choice! Got @johnlegend grooving and @blakesheltonsinging along. Beautiful sultry voice and stage presence. She just did THAT!”  

Another added, “Congrats Zania! A beautiful performance. And another Michigan contestant. Welcome to The Voice and #TeamLegend.” One user shared, “Wow!! Phenomenal!!! Beautiful! VOICE!! Kelly nailed it !! Butter and Beauty!! Just Gorgeous!!” One posted, “Welcome to Team Legend. Please do not put her up against Victor, they both are too good and we want to see them go far.” Another concluded, “Wow she’s good.”

‘The Voice’ Season 20 airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC.
