Both Ian Flanigan and James Pyle have been consistently performing well on 'The Voice'. So, during the knockouts round, Blake Shelton decided to pit these two extremely talented singers against each other, before the live stage round. Ian made a strong impression on Blake with his gravelly voice while James' high notes have wowed the coaches time and again.

For the knockouts round, both Ian and James were ready to fight it out by picking a song that worked well with their vocals. While Ian picked 'Beautiful Crazy' by Luke Combs, James went with Shawn Mendes' 'In my Blood'. During the rehearsals when both contestants performed before mega coach Usher, he was left speechless.

Usher declared that Ian had the potential for going all the way on the show, and was one of Blake's strongest contestants, while James' range had Usher swooning over him.

When both of them finally performed in front of all the coaches during the knockouts round, the coaches couldn't contain their excitement on watching their exceptional performance. When John Legend, an EGOT winner, tells you that your performance sent chills down his spine and could never sing like that, it's the best compliment one can ever get.

James was the lucky recipient of such high praise from John while the other judges too sang praises of how his high notes were something they thoroughly enjoyed. They all praised Ian's raspy voice too.

It was finally Blake's turn to pick a winner of the knockouts round. His fellow coaches sympathized with him as he had a very difficult decision to make. Although Blake loved James' notes, he couldn't help but pick Ian as the winner.

Blake explained how every contestant on the show could be compared to a singer but there's no singer or performer he could think of who sang like Ian. His gravelly and raspy voice had Blake wondering if he drank boiling hot water or gargled with glass shards that left him with such a unique voice. James may have not won the knockouts round but he definitely won John's heart.

'The Voice' Season 19 airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.
