'The View': Whoopi Goldberg accepts Patrick Stewart’s surprise invitation to join 'Star Trek: Picard' Season 2

Stewart said, "Something that I need to bring up. I'm here with a formal invitation - and it's for you, Whoopi. Alex Kurtzman, who is the senior executive producer of 'Star Trek: Picard', and all of his colleagues (of which I am one), want to invite you into the second season"

Actor Patrick Stewart who will be seen portraying the role of Jean-Luc Picard in 'Star Trek: Picard' was on 'The View' as a special guest. He promoted his show and shared anecdotes about portraying a role that he had previously portrayed in 2002 film 'Star Trek: Nemesis'. Amid the interview, however, Stewart, took a long pause as if he was pondering on something important and instead had a surprise announcement.

Stewart said, "Something that I need to bring up. I'm here with a formal invitation - and it's for you, Whoopi. Alex Kurtzman, who is the senior executive producer of 'Star Trek: Picard', and all of his colleagues (of which I am one), want to invite you into the second season."

Goldberg approved, and she said yes. Goldberg played the role of Guinan in the film 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'. Guinan was an El-Aurian, who are long-living, psychically-endowed 'Listeners'. She was Jean-Luc Picard's confidante who was 600 years old and served as a hostess at the U.S.S. Enterprise. Guinan's also known to have had a past conflict with The Borg race. Coincidentally or not, this race is set to make a come back in 'Star Trek: Picard' as well.

After receiving the invitation from Stewart, Goldberg spoke about how 'Star Trek' was one of the greatest experiences for her and that she had the "best, best, best time ever."

Speaking about how he plays a character 18 years later, Stewart said, "It's easy. Jean-Luc Picard has aged 18 years fictionally, Patrick Stewart has aged 18 years actually." So he explained how he didn't have to work at it because it was just him. He also added that the show had a great team of writers and said, "I wanted to show that Picard's world had changed because Patrick's world has certainly changed. And we are no longer living in the same kind of society we lived in 18 years ago."

'Star Trek: Picard' is set to premiere on CBS January 23 and the first season will consist of 10 episodes. The show has also received a season 2 renewal.
