For a career that spanned over four decades, The Undertaker earned a plethora of money by competing inside the ring day-in and day-out. So, let’s take a look at the fortune he has made after putting his body on the line for almost 40 years.

Early life and career

Born on March 24, 1965, The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Calaway, attended Waltrip High School, where he was a member of the school’s football and basketball teams. In 1985, he graduated from Texas Wesleyan University and played for the college’s basketball team in the 1985-1986 season, before deciding to focus on wrestling.

In 1987, he wrestled his first match for the World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) and lost his first match against Bruiser Brody. After making appearances at various for two years, the wrestler joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1989 and competed with various other wrestlers. However, his moment of glory came in 1990 when he signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and made his debut later that year. Calaway made his official on-camera debut on November 22 at Survivor Series as a heel when he was the mystery partner of Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar Team. Although he made his debut with the name ‘Kane the Undertaker’, fans started calling him ‘The Undertaker’ shortly after the match ended.

He went to win several matches before making his Wrestlemania debut in 1991. The Undertaker competed with Jimmy Snuka in his first match at the event and defeated him to start a streak that would go on for 21 long years. The Undertaker defeated Hulk Hogan to win his first WWF Championship at Survivor Series and became the youngest WWF Champion at the time.

Over the years, he had some of the greatest feuds with wrestlers such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and many more. His match against Shawn Michaels in Wrestlemania 25 and Triple H in Wrestlemania 28 is still considered one of the greatest wrestling matches of all time, making them two of the most-watched WWE matches in history.

The Streak

The most iconic thing in The Undertaker’s wrestling career has been his Wrestlemania Streak, which started in 1991. Over the course of 21 years, the professional wrestler went inside the ring against some of the legendary names in WWE’s history like King Kong Bundy, Diesel, Kane, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kane, Big Show, Randy Orton, Mark Henry, Batista, and Ric Flair.

He defeated all the aforementioned names to carry on with the undefeated streak, which made him an icon. However, in 2010, the streak ended in a match against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 30. It was believed that The Undertaker wanted to take retirement as soon as possible and wanted a strong competitor for the streak to end. So, he, along with Vince McMahon, chairman of WWE, decided to rope in Brock Lesnar for the match.

Movies and TV shows

Apart from being a legendary sportsperson, The Undertaker also had the chance to act in various movies and TV shows as well. He made his feature film debut with ‘Suburban Commando’ in 1991 while he made his TV debut in 1999 with ‘Poltergeist: The Legacy’. He will be next seen in the upcoming Netflix movie ‘Escape The Undertaker, an interactive movie that also stars Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods in pivotal roles.

Awards and accomplishments

During his illustrious career, the legendary wrestler has won numerous championship belts and awards. He has been a four-time WWF/WWE Champion and a three-time World Heavyweight Champion. Apart from that, Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked his matches with Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 25 & 26) and Triple H (Wrestlemania 28) as the Match of the Year in 2009, 2010, and 2012.

Also, he was ranked number two in the list of top 500 singles wrestlers by PWI in 2002.
