'The Titan Games' Season 2: Meet Central Region finalist Jaime Seeman, 'the modern-day supermom'
Dr Jaime Seeman won fans when she dished out scintillating performances to set up a clash with Chantae McMillan, the Titan at that time. If not for the bit of a struggle at the 'Iron Ascent' on the Mount Olympus challenge, Seeman would have just pipped the former Olympian to bag the Titan title. However, it was tough luck. But come the Central Region Finals on Monday, June 8, she will have another shot to take on Chantae and Dani Speegle, the current Titan.
Ahead of the finals, MEA WorldWide caught up with Seeman who spoke about being part of the show, meeting Dwayne Johnson and her best memory on the show so far.
Congratulations on making it to the Central Region Finals on 'The Titan Games'. What motivated you to join the show?
I really had not heard about 'The Titan Games' until the first season was almost over, but somebody told me about it and I looked up the show and, of course, it has The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) in it. No better faith for the show than The Rock. And I was watching it and I thought, "Oh my gosh, this is incredible." It reminds me of 'American Gladiators' when I was a young girl, and I thought that this would be an amazing test of my physical capabilities. I am a former collegiate athlete, but it's been many years since I've competed because I became a doctor and a mom of three girls. So, I felt like this was the time to get back and see how fast and strong I really was.
How did you prepare for the show?
I normally work out using heavy resistance and high-intensity interval training. When I applied to the show and found out that I was going to come out to the combine, which is like a physical tryout for the show, it was very short notice, like less than a month before I was notified. And then we really found out just about two to three days after the combine that we were selected for the actual filming, which happened about a week later. So in all honesty, we didn't have a lot of time to prepare a certain way, but I just continued my normal training and added some additional things like heavy sled pushes and a lot of sledgehammer work. Because I knew watching season one, there was definitely some sledgehammers involved, but when we showed up for filming, you really don't know what challenges you're going to be faced with.
These are not everyday things, and I'm not sure that there is any way that anybody could prepare because you don't know what your challenge is going to be when you show up. If anybody has watched Episode One, I was like climbing fences and having to kick in these barrels. So it's just not everyday activities for sure. I don't know how they come up with these.
What thoughts were running in your mind while competing?
It was exciting just to be out there in the Titan uniform and everybody's cheering your name. But of course, you want to win. I came there to be a Titan and to end up in the finale and you know there is the ultimate prize, there are definitely some nerves, and it's going to be on TV. But I have competed my whole life so I think it's almost more of a mental game sometimes than it is a physical game to not be distracted by all the cameras, the lights, and the smoke and the noise. It's about just going out there and getting it done physically.
What's the best memory of you have of from the show so far?
I think the best memory that I have from filming honestly, is when I would come off the course is to run over and hug my three little girls. I have three daughters that are very soon to be five, seven, and nine. I can hear their little voices while I was out there competing. And to have them watch me go out and do these crazy things. Watching that, I feel like it's setting this amazing example for these little girls, but you can do anything you want to do in the world if you're willing to work for it. So, really, the best memory is having my three girls there to witness me competing.
The comments on Twitter when you performed were positive with fans calling you an inspiration. What are your thoughts on this?
I think that's just honestly an incredible comment to read and to hear from people because it's really what I strive to do, day in and day out. I want to show every woman, every little girl across the world that you can be smart, you can be a doctor, and you can also be strong and be an athlete. A lot of people kind of gave me this title of 'supermom' on the show, and I really am just trained to embody body that title and prove to people that you can actually be a modern-day supermom and it just takes work ethic and discipline.
What was it like sharing screen space with Dwayne Johnson?
It's the question everybody asks (laughs). The Rock's amazing. He's not as tall as I thought he would be, but he's a big guy. He's got these biceps I think are as big as my quads, but he's so kind. He's just very normal. I think what Dwayne really embodies is just work ethic and it doesn't matter if it's in the gym or in his business. He's a dad and a husband too. And he's really honestly what you guys see on TV. That's the Dwayne that we interacted with too.
'Titan Games' Season 2 Central Region finale airs Monday, 8 pm ET on NBC.
