On paper (and also from the looks of the trailer), HBO's upcoming series 'The Third Day' is easily a storytelling marvel. Told in two parts dividing the six episodes into 'Summer' and 'Winter', the show follows a man's (played by Jude Law) visit to a mysterious island where fantasy and reality merge. As he races against time and hopes to find out the truth, he makes a larger discovery for those who are closely associated with the place.

The drama mystery series created by writer Dennis Kelly and Felix Barrett, and directed by Marc Munden and Philippa Lowthorpe, boasts of a very talented star cast that only amps up our anticipation. The series arrives on HBO on September 14, 2020, at 9 pm ET/ PT. But before that, meet the cast.

Jude Law as Sam

Jude Law as Sam on 'The Third Day' (Ludovic Robert/ HBO)

We earlier reported that Jude Law plays the role of Sam, who is the man who arrives on the mysterious island just off the coast of Britain and is confronted with a world like never before.

The multiple award winner is known for his work in Anthony Minghella's 'The Talented Mr Ripley', a role for which he won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. His work continued in 'Road to Perdition', 'AI Artificial Intelligence', 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald', and 'Captain Marvel'. His role in 'Cold Mountain' is also highly appreciated by critics and audiences alike. The acclaimed performance earned him an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. His more commercial roles are that of Dr Watson in 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' alongside Robert Downey Jr.

Katherine Waterston as Jess

(HBO)

What role Waterston plays as Jess is not revealed at the moment. The actress is known for her breakthrough performance in 'Inherent Vice'. She played Tina Goldstein in the Harry Potter spin-off 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', Dabney is 'Mid90s' and Marguerite Westinghouse in 'The Current War'.

Naomie Harris as Helen

(HBO)

Harris is set to play the role of Helen, a strong-willed outsider who comes to the island seeking answers, "but whose arrival precipitates a fractious battle to decide its fate as the lines between fantasy and fact are distorted". While that description of her character sounds vague, the role is set to be a pivotal one for the story.

The actress rose to prominence with her critically acclaimed performance in 'Moonlight' for which she earned herself nominations for the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her roles of Eve Moneypenny in 'Skyfall' and 'Spectre' is notable. She will be reprising the role in 'No Time to Die'.

Emily Watson as Mrs Martin

(HBO)

Again, information about the role that Watson plays on the upcoming mystery drama is kept under wraps, but we can tell you that she is an inhabitant of the so-called mysterious island that is at the center of the show.

The actress is best known for her work in the terrifying HBO miniseries 'Chernobyl', a role for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. For her portrayal of Janet Lench in 'Appropriate Adult', she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress. Playing Anne Howe in 'The Life and Death of Peter Sellers' won her a Golden Globe nomination. She is also known for 'The Theory of Everything' and 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle'.

Watson began her acting career on stage and has many acclaimed plays and performances to her credit including 'The Children's Hour' (at the Royal National Theatre), 'Three Sisters', 'Much Ado About Nothing' and 'The Lady from the Sea'.

Paddy Considine as Mr Martin

(HBO)

The actor is best known for his work in 'A Room for Romeo Brass', 'Dead Man's Shoes', 'Blitz', 'Honour' and 'The Girl with All the Gifts'. He wrote and directed 'Journeyman', which was nominated for Best Actor for British Independent Film Awards. Considine is also known for his appearances in 'Submarine', 'The World's End', 'Macbeth',  and 'The Death of Stalin'. He also had a recurring role in Series 3 of 'Peaky Blinders'.

Apart from these biggies, the series also stars Nico Parker as Ellie. The 15-year-old actress is known for her breakthrough performance in 'Dumbo'. She is set to star alongside her mother Thandie Newton as Zoe in the film 2021 release 'Reminiscence'. 18-year-old Freya Allan is set to star as Kali on 'The Third Day'.
