'The Test: A New Era for Australia's team': Release date, director, trailer and all you need to know about the cricket series on redemption

The Amazon Prime docuseries starts after the ball-tampering fiasco in South Africa and portrays the team's journey to retain the Ashes

'The Test: A New Era for Australia's team' on Amazon Prime is one of the most anticipated cricket docuseries of the year.  The intriguing trailer made headlines as it captured Australia's journey to retain The Ashes in England.  It starts off after the ball-tampering fiasco in South Africa caused a tumult across the world, especially in Australia.  Amazon Prime has already dropped a few teasers and sneak-peeks along with the trailer.  Ahead of the series release, here's all you need to know about the eight-part series:

'The Test: A New Era for Australia's team' releases on March 11.

What's it about?

The official synopsis reads: "'The Test: A New Era for Australia’s Team' will offer Prime members unprecedented access inside the Australian men’s cricket team, immediately following the 2018 ball-tampering incident as they regroup, reflect and rebuild to retain the 2019 Ashes Urn on English soil for the first time in 18 years."

Director/Writer

The series is directed by Adrian Brown and produced by CA Films in partnership with Australian production company Whooshka Media.

Talking about the series, James Farrell, VP of international originals at Amazon Studios, told Deadline: "As we continue to increase the production of Australian Amazon Original series, our goal is to tell local stories that resonate with our Prime members and we believe that 'The Test' will do just that."

He also added: "In working with Cricket Australia, we’ve captured the spirit of the nation’s sport that will be sure to delight both fans of the game as well as those who enjoy an amazing comeback story of redemption. We’re excited to launch this series exclusively for our Prime members in Australia and around the world."

Director Adrian Brown looked at 'The Test' as an opportunity to tell the story of resilience, character and achievement against the odds by the team and termed it as a privilege. "Cricket is a game steeped in tradition, and the behind the scenes access the Australian cricket team has provided for 'The Test' is unprecedented. I can’t speak highly enough of the players and coaches involved."

The trailer opens with the Australian team going through a tough time.  Footage of The Ashes and clips of the team's highs and lows are documented. Of notable interest was the shot of the Jofra Archer-bouncer that floored Steven Smith.
