'The Talk' hosts discuss Emilia Clarke pressured into 'GoT' nude scenes early in career, rapper Eve relates: 'Now I just say no'
‘Game of Thrones’ actor Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO fantasy show, recently revealed she felt pressured to shoot nude scenes in the early seasons of the show. Talking on the Armchair Expert podcast November 18, Clarke said, "I'm a lot more savvy [now] with what I’m comfortable with, and what I am okay with doing. I've had fights on set before where I'm like, 'No, the sheet stays up,' and they're like, 'You don't wanna disappoint your 'Game of Thrones' fans.' And I'm like, 'F*ck you.'"
She said, "I'm floating through this first season and I have no idea what I’m doing, I have no idea what any of this is. I've never been on a film set like this before, I'd been on a film set twice before then, and I'm now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don't know what I'm meant to do and I don't know what's expected of me, and I don't know what you want, and I don't know what I want."
In today’s episode of CBS' Daytime Emmy Award-winning talk show ‘The Talk’, Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, rapper Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba and Marie Osmond discussed this confession. The women all empathized with Clarke's predicament and the hosts even opened up about their experiences with incidents like these.
On 'The Talk', when Inaba put forward the question as to whether any of them had trouble saying no to anything, but now could confidently, host and rapper Eve said, "I think that just comes with growth and understanding."
Sharing her story on-air, Eve said, "For years in my career, I used to have trouble saying no to certain professional engagements. And something that I would deeply feel in my gut -- I'd say, 'Guys, I don't want to do something that doesn't align with me,' and I would have agents at the time say to me like, 'Well, we don't wanna burn any bridges. We don't wanna make them mad.' But no one was really thinking about how I was really feeling."
She added, "Sometimes I would do things because I would be so scared to say no and then they would scare me and I would just do it." She said she would show up and she would have "an attitude". She added, "I was mad to be there."
But things have since changed for Eve as well. "So now, if it doesn't align with me, if I don't feel it in my gut, I just say no because ultimately, what's mine is always mine," the rapper said.
Co-host and actor Underwood said to avoid situations like this, she had to form a company to represent her. "Because I felt like people didn't understand. They didn't understand -- I'm not doing devil worship (on-screen)," she said, adding cheekily, "My fat a** will never get naked with anybody (on-screen)."
'The Talk' airs Monday through Friday at 11 a.m. PT.
