'The Old Man' has been one of the more impressive shows in 2022 and after the delays that led to it premiering three years after its announcement, it's all set to wind up Season 1 after a humdinger finale. The thriller is based on the bestselling Thomas Perry novel of the same name. The FX spy thriller opened to rave reviews from critics and continued to be outstanding over the course of the season. Such was the massive success that a Season 2 was inevitable.

Rotten Tomatoes has a 95% rating from critics making it one of the most-awaited shows in June. In their review, Variety said, "Jeff Bridges lends grain and texture to a role that could too easily be a geriatric Ethan Hunt: Chase may be close to infallible, but he also gets meaningfully frustrated and weary." And with the finale laying the groundwork for the new season, here's everything that we do know so far.

Who stars in 'The Old Man' Season 2?

Expect the main characters to return for Season 2. John Lithgow as Harold Harper, Bridges as Dan Chase, and Amy Brenneman as Zoe McDonald will all reprise their roles. It also remains to be seen whether Alia Shawkat returns for Season 2 considering her character's in deep waters. As for the rest of the cast, it depends on the storylines Season 2 takes. The same applies to Leem Lubany as Young Abbey Chase / Belour, and E. J. Bonilla's Raymond Waters.

When will 'The Old Man' Season 2 release?

FX announced 'The Old Man’s first in 2019, but the network paused production twice during shooting, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Bridges’ lymphoma diagnosis in 2020. The series production eventually restarted production and finished filming in early 2022.  Assuming the next installment will face fewer disruptions, Season 2 will likely premiere sometime in mid-to-late 2023.

What is the plot of 'The Old Man' Season 2?

Season 2 will most likely deal with the aftermath of Chase and Harper's mission to save Emily, and get to Faraz Hamzad. Zoe is still one of his biggest support systems. In the previous episode, Chase's mission to get close to Faraz Hamzad leads him to reunite with Harper and save his daughter. The biggest reveal is Morgan Bote being the old man, thereby giving the massive twist that no one saw coming. He was always the man calling the shots and pulling the strings. Safe to say that Chase and Harper were practically puppets with Zoe (Amy Brenneman) and Emily (Alia Shawkat) looked at as collateral.

Latest buzz around 'The Old Man'

Bridges, undoubtedly the biggest star in 'The Old Man' garnered rave reviews for his performance, not just on the show, but for some of his other projects as well. However, he isn't a fan of some of the experiences. The 72-year-old recently relived his experience of shooting for 'Iron Man' in 2008. While the Robert Downey Jr-starrer saw the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bridges had his share of confusion although he massively credits the movie for being an instrumental part of his career.

“It was Marvel’s first adventure into making movies," he told Vanity Fair. "It was so lucky to have Jon on there and [Robert] Downey because both of them are so, they’re terrific improvisers, and we spent a couple of weeks working on the script and rehearsing together, because we didn’t like the original script and we thought, ‘Oh yeah, we fixed this, fixed that,'” Bridges explained.

“And then came the first day of shooting, and Marvel kind of threw out our script that we had been working on, said, ‘No, that’s no good. It’s got to be this and that.’ And so there was a lot of confusion about what our script was, what we were gonna say, you know? And we’d spend hours in one of our trailers going over lines, and saying ‘Oh you play my part or I’ll play your part,’ exploring how we were going to do it.”

“It drove me absolutely crazy until I made a slight adjustment in my brain,” Bridges explained, “and that adjustment was, ‘Jeff, just relax. You’re making a $200 million student film. Just relax and have fun.’ And that kind of did the trick because here I get to play with these two incredible artists and just jam, and that’s what we ended up doing.”
