LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Nurse', a Danish series on Netflix which stars Josephine Park as Christina and Fanny Louise Bernth as Pernille, is filled with endless night shifts in a hospital. Viewers get to see the tension build up as Pernille's suspicions of Christina murdering her patients grow stronger by the minute.

'The Nurse' is based on Kristian Corfixen's book of the same name, which tells the true story of one of Scandinavia's most famous criminal trials. It follows the true account of a Danish nurse who was found guilty of attempting to kill four patients. With reports of a serial murderer nurse on the loose at Nykbing Falster Hospital, Danish police initiate an inquiry that quickly leads to staff claiming that one of their own may be poisoning patients.

'The Nurse' Episode 1 Review: Two sides of the war zone called hospital

Pernille's chilling investigation

Pernille works at a hospital where patients are suddenly going into cardiac arrests and dying, and no one finds this unusual. Pernille decides to investigate Christina after three deaths take place on the latter's night shift duty. But it might become harder than Pernille thought as Christina is also the most beloved nurse on the team, and accusations one can't prove will only hurt her own reputation.

Some of the staff she talks to makes Pernille feel like she's going crazy - or like she has joined the group of girls who work less but gossip more. But this doesn't affect Pernille as much since her instincts only grow stronger day by day. She decides to tell her boyfriend, Dr Niel, who has worked a lot of patients with Christina. But like everyone else, he too reacts with skepticism. While pressure mounts on Pernille, the body count also rises.

Hair-raising screenplay

Deaths follow in quick succession in this very Scandinoir series, with the deft screenplay elevating the tension at the right moment. Josephine Park and Fanny Louise Bernth share amazing chemistry and have successfully managed to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats with no clue of what will happen next. The supporting cast too does a fine job of carrying the series forward.

'The Nurse' is streaming on Netflix.
