COPENHAGEN, DENMARK: In the third episode of the Danish show ‘The Nurse’, produced by Netflix, Pernille Kurzmann, the new member of the nursing community in the emergency ward of the Nykobing Falster Hospital, dives deep to confirm her suspicions about a murdering nurse. The nurse in question, Christina Hansen, is the hospital’s superstar and a former dear friend of Pernille. After learning about Christina’s horrifying deeds, Pernille has distanced herself from her and is fighting tooth and nail in the third episode to find out the truth behind the mysterious deaths at the hospital.

The show has taken its own sweet time to zero in on Christina as the murderer. Even though it hasn’t been proven until now, it's a fair assumption that her villainous secret will be out soon. ‘The Nurse’ feels a little rushed as the creator, Kasper Barfoed, seems to have been given only a handful of episodes to tell a harrowing tale. Nevertheless, the past and present of Christina’s life seem equally interesting to Pernille, who dwells on her colleague’s history to learn about her current crimes.

What is 'The Nurse' about? Plot of Netflix's true-crime Danish drama explained

Who was Christina’s first victim?

Pernille goes to Christina’s former colleague, who used to work with her on the night shift at a different hospital. She learns of a man named Arne Herskov who was killed by an overdose of morphine and diazepam while at the hospital where Christina worked back in 2012. In 2015, when the story takes place, an aged man who was admitted to the Nykobing Falster Hospital for a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) dies of a sudden cardiac arrest. Neither death should have happened by any chance. Given Christina's presence at both places and the presence of excess morphine and diazepam in the bloodstream of both the deceased, Pernille believes it was Christina who administered the lethal dose. She rushes to a known face at the hospital with the evidence.

Who is helping Pernille expose Christina?

Pernille is romantically involved with a doctor named Lunden at the hospital and lets him in on her investigation. The patient who died after the UTI diagnosis was under Lunden's supervision, and after his own investigation, he confirms Pernille's damning suspicions. The duo now believes that between 2012 and 2015, Christina killed countless people.

Christina, unaware of the walls closing in around her, roams free, but the past seems to be catching up with her via Pernille and now Lunden. What will be the final nail in the coffin that completely exposes Christina’s devilish deeds?
