Why is 'The Gordon Ford Show' significant?

'The Gordon Ford Show' is one of the fictional late-show in the universe of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel'. Introduced in Season 4, 'The Gordon Ford Show' is hosted by Reid Scott, and though introduced as a regular late-night show, it is significant to the plot of the series. When Sophie Lennon was in a career slump and wanted to jumpstart her career once again, she was introduced to the show by Susie, and during her time at 'The Gordon Ford Show', Sophie was able to open up about her real side and started to gain her support from the audience. This eventually led Sophie to gain momentum in her career.

Now, in Season 5, Midge is at her career bottom and she has vowed to be on 'The Gordon Ford Show'. This eventually leads Midge to work as a staff writer at the late show, thanks to her agent Susie. However, Midge is currently struggling to adapt to the new environment as everything is new to her.

Is 'The Gordon Ford Show' real?

While 'The Gordon Ford Show' is not exactly a real late-night show from the late 50s and '60s, it surely takes its inspiration from several of the popular late-night show formats that continue to rule television today. From 'The Ford Show' to 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon', the format of the late-night shows has seen drastic changes.

However, when noted keenly, 'The Gordon Ford Show' has its resemblance to 'The Ford Show' and it is safe to say that Reid Scott's show was inspired from it. 'The Ford Show' aired from 1956 to 1961, which matches the timeline of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel'. 'The Ford Show' was hosted by Tennessee Ernie Ford and holds several significance to late-night television, including introducing the famous animated 'Peanuts' character.

The show made Ernie Ford a household name and became irreplaceable when he concluded hosting the show. Ernie Ford was considered a charming host. However, both shows were different in many ways. 'The Gordon Ford Show' is filmed in New York and is named after the host Gordan Ford, whereas 'The Ford Show' was filmed in California and was named after the Ford Motor Company. While the fictional Gordan show has comics as guests, 'The Ford Show' had more musical guests.

'The Gordon Ford Show' is set to play a significant role in the career of Midge as she has given it her one final big shot. Though she seems to be struggling now, Midge can try to understand and overcome them as the show is a good public exposure for her career. We are about to see a lot of 'The Gordon Ford Show' in Season 5 and that's for sure.

The first four seasons of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' are available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The fifth and final season of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' is released weekly on Amazon Prime Video.
