'The Mandalorian' could move the spotlight away from 'Star Wars' grand cosmic battles to ordinary space life

Fans can hope to see a host of new characters and worlds added to the vast galaxy of the franchise in the series, including plenty of bounty hunters, smugglers, and other assorted elements from the galaxy's seedy underbelly.

The 'Star Wars' franchise has been a story about epic cosmic battles between good and evil since its very first movie hit the theaters. Across film, television, and other media, the story of the conflict between the Jedi and the Sith has been told and retold countless times, but we've never really been able to see the 'Star Wars' galaxy outside of these grand cosmic events explored properly on screen before. All that changes with Jon Favreau's 'The Mandalorian'.

Set about five years after the events of ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’ and before ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, 'The Mandalorian' will follow an unnamed Mandalorian warrior on his adventures across the farthest reaches of the galaxy, far from the reaches of the law. Fans can hope to see a host of new characters and worlds added to the vast galaxy of the franchise in the series, including plenty of bounty hunters, smugglers, and other assorted elements from the galaxy's seedy underbelly.

While there are probably going to be at least a few Jedi and Sith popping up in the series, the show's setting in the Outer Rim of the galaxy suggests that it will probably not overly concern itself with the operatic battles between the Light Side and the Dark. This means that the show is in a unique position to shine some light on the everyday lives of the people who live in the shadows of galactic organizations like the Empire and the Republic.

The upcoming movie 'Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker' is expected to bring the story of the Jedi and the Sith to its conclusion so it looks like the future of the franchise will be less concerned with Force-wielding superheroes and more focused on relatively ordinary people who live in the vast galaxy. 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' teased the same thing by showing people across the galaxy being inspired by the noble cause of the Resistance. As amazing as it has been to see the grand space battles of the franchise, this is a welcome shift that could lead to some great stories being told in the future and we can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

'The Mandalorian' will arrive on Disney+ on November 12.
