'The Mandalorian' Season 2: Top 5 characters fans are eagerly looking forward to see in the new season
'The Mandalorian' has set a new benchmark for the 'Star Wars' franchise. Its Emmy-award winning first season has been a hit with both fans and critics alike. While Season 1 largely kept to its own mythology, it still maintained its connections to the larger 'Star Wars' galaxy — and Season 2 looks like it will deepen those connections even more by bringing fan-favorite characters to the series. Some will be making their live action debut, some will take on new iterations, but if Season 1 is any indication, their appearances will all be in justice by the show. Here are the top 5 characters fans are looking forward to seeing done right when 'The Mandalorian' returns.
1. Ahsoka Tano
This is the character most fans are excited to see brought to live action. Voiced by Ashley Eckstein for the entire run of 'The Clone Wars' and 'Rebels,' her live action portrayal by Rosario Dawson sent waves of excitement through the fandom, who saw the long-running series complete its final season late last year. Very little is known of what became of Ahsoka Tano after the fall of the Empire, and for the first time, fans are going to get a chance to find out.
2. Commander Rex
When it comes to 'The Clone Wars' characters, you can't go wrong with one of the clones themselves. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker — who did the impressive job of voicing every single clone throughout the series — his live action counterpart has not yet been cast, nor has it been confirmed that he will even be making an appearance. However, the good-hearted Clone Captain and ally to Anakin Skywalker is a fan favorite, and with the appearance of so many other references from 'The Clone Wars', his live-screen debut is only a matter of time. Given that Temuera Morrison, the man who played the original clone, Jango Fett, will be returning as the clone Boba Fett, casting has never been an easier job.
3. Bo-Katan Kryze
The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) has been heard claiming his mission statement is to find other Mandalorians to guide him. With the appearance of the Darksaber last season, there's no better Mandalorian for him to meet than the former ruler of Mandalore — and Darksaber weilder — herself. Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) was the Mandalorian leader who united the warring Mandalorian tribes with the Darksaber, and her appearance implies big things for the future of Mandalore in the post-Empire wake of the Purge.
4. Fennec Shand
Though Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand is down, she's not out for the count, and the bounty hunter is rumored to be returning in Season 2 for revenge against Mando and his cohorts. Her appearance may not have been confirmed, but the one episode she was in was just not enough for her fans, and they're already clamoring for more. Given the semi-anthological nature of 'The Mandalorian', she may not be a recurring character — but an appearance is far from out of the question.
5. Boba Fett
The man who started it all, in a sense. The first character to ever be seen donning Mandalorian armor, it was his character that inspired Jango Fett and the story of the Clones that has become such an integral part of 'Star Wars' history. When we last saw Fett, he had fallen into a Sarlacc pit and was about to be slowly digested over a thousand years, but his confirmed appearance in Season 2 suggesta he somehow escaped the pit, and is now coming face to face with the man his character inspired.
'The Mandalorian' returns to TV on October 30, on Disney+.
