Charlie Puth calls working with Elton John 'surreal', gushes about his autographed piano on James Corden show
On his appearance on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' earlier tonight, American singer, songwriter and record producer Charlie Puth performed his latest song 'Girlfriend'. The song, which dropped on June 25, 2020, has him crooning to a potential lover about long-term commitment. "This is more than just a phase," he sings in the chorus of the song.
Before taking the mic to sing 'Girlfriend' on the chat show, Puth was asked what his inspiration behind the song was. He said that he wrote the song for anyone who wishes to convey their feelings for someone out of their league. At the same time, the singer also spoke about his upcoming collaboration with his long-time idol Sir Elton John — how it came to be and more. "He (Elton) signed this piano," he said showing the piano right behind him.
"Before the lockdown, we met at a restaurant and the maîtres-d introduced us. And I walked over I was just excited to meet him and thought it (the meeting) was over there. He said we should write," Puth recalls. He then remembers thinking that it might not happen, especially given how busy Elton is. "Next day, I get an email from him that said, 'I could come over next week'. And he did!" the singer said, adding, "It was pretty surreal having Elton John in my house."
Following this conversation, he played his latest song 'Girlfriend' — a performance that was loved by his fans. "@charlieputh sitting here watching the @latelateshow waiting to watch my handsome, talented, intelligent, amazing man: Charlie perform," tweeted a fan. "How’s it possible that it’s even better than the already awesome studio version?! What a talented human! charlieputh, we love you!!! #Girlfriend #CharliePuthGF," added another fan.
