Things between Washington DC mayor Muriel Bowser and President Donald Trump have been very rocky in the wake of the mayor invoking the Constitution’s Third Amendment to kick military troops out of the capital. Ever since then, both the powerful leaders haven't been able to see eye-to-eye on anything. The latest episode of popular talk show 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' featured the mayor as a guest on the show.

During her brief appearance on the virtual interview, the mayor spoke about the renaming of the street in front of the White House to 'Black Lives Matter Plaza' and painting the street with the slogan and her views on how the current administration is handling the protests following the death of George Floyd. As the mayor continued speaking passionately about how she is determined to ensure that there is equality in the country and supported the defunding of the police force, Corden asked her a question which many of us were curious to know her response to.

Corden asked her if she was afraid that the Trump administration might pull some strings to prevent funding of Washington DC for disobeying his orders. Without a trace of hesitation, the mayor immediately said "yes" and revealed that it's not just her but many governors are scared that the administration may cut down the funding of several states who have spoken up against the President and his policies. Despite her fears, the mayor didn't appear to be anywhere close to succumbing to the President's demands. Trump has in the past threatened to cut the funding of states like Nevada and Michigan for false voter-fraud claims, while also threatening to withhold millions of dollars from "sanctuary states."

The death of George Floyd sparked outrage and protests across the country. George Floyd, an African-American man, died on May 25, after he was handcuffed and made to lie face down on the street while Derek Chauvin, a white police officer knelt on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Despite Floyd complaining of pain and difficulty in breathing, Chauvin refused to get off Floyd's neck. He was later rushed to the hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate him for an hour before declaring him dead. Following Floyd's death, people have been protesting against police brutality and unfair killing of African-Americans while highlighting the Black Lives Matter movement across the country. In several states, the protests have taken a violent turn with many angry protesters looting stores and setting things on fire.
