'The House of Flowers' season 2: Release date, plot, cast and everything you need to know about Netflix's gripping Mexican drama

Created by Manolo Caro, 'The House of Flowers' follow the lives of the Mexican upper-class dysfunctional de la Mora family as they navigate tragedies and betrayals

Netflix’s Mexican original series 'The House of Flowers' aka 'La Casa de Las Flores' was an immediate hit when it was released in August 2018 even sparking the #PaulinadelaMoraChallenge where fans would try to replicate the eldest de la Mora sibling’s signature slow Mexican accent.

Season one begins when the de la Mora family patriarch, Ernesto’s mistress, kills herself which prompts him to bring his illegitimate daughter to live with his wife and three adult children. What follows is a daring, yet the hilarious turn of events as secrets come to light and relationships are messed around with.

Release Date

Filming for season two began in March 2019 and wrapped up in July. The second season is expected to drop on Netflix on October 18, 2019. The show has also been renewed for a third season which can be expected in late 2020.

Plot

The first season explores the dysfunctional dynamics between Ernesto and his family — his wife Virginia, his adult children Paulina, Elena and Julian. Virginia is the leading face of 'The House of Flowers', the family’s prestigious flower business. Ernesto's mistress Roberta, who also narrates the show, was helping Ernesto run his side business, a drag cabaret named The House of Flowers. When Paulina, the eldest de la Mora sibling, separated from Maria Jose, her ex-husband who transitioned to a woman returns with her teenage son while Elena returns with her American boyfriend Dominique.

Julian is already at home spending time with his girlfriend, but also secretly sees Diego, the family's financial advisor. When season one ended, Paulina decides to get back with Maria Jose. Elena, meanwhile, is stuck in the middle of a messy love triangle and Julian is heartbroken over Diego's betrayal after he runs off with the de la Mora family's money.

Soon after season two was announced, it was revealed that Veronica Castro, the legendary Mexican actress who plays the de la Mora matriarch, will not be returning for more seasons. In August, a teaser of the Whatsapp conversations between the adult de la Mora siblings was released which seems to imply that Virginia has died.

An additional teaser was released where Paulina is seen leaving a voicemail for Diego, where she leaves him a threatening message 'Taken'-style telling him that if he brings back the money he stole, she will let him go.

Filming for season two took place in Spain and Mexico. Manolo Caro, the show’s creator has promised a more fun and intense season with lots of surprises and new characters.
