'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 4 Episode 1: Commander Lawrence is sentenced to death, will Nick Blaine rescue him?

'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 4 Episode 1 sees June face death and be reborn as a Mayday operative, but her former ally Commander Lawrence is in danger

Spoilers for 'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 4 Episode 1 'Pigs'...

'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 4 premiere is a slow start to an all-new season as for the most part, the first episode centers on June (Elizabeth Moss) recuperating from her wound while on the run from the top men of Gilead. Despite losing Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) to the Canadian government, Commander Winslow to June's knife and Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) siding with Mayday to help June in sending children and a few women to Canada, Gilead's top rung of commanders seem to have worked a way out to shift and balance power, introducing new commanders. 

Aunt Lydia, who was in custody for 19 days being investigated about the handmaids who had escaped with the children, is out for blood - June's to be specific and so, she pushes the commanders to capture June and bring her back.

Commander Lawrence, who helped June actively in her mission to free as many children as possible in Season 3, has also been captured by the Gilead high officials and is in prison. It is at this time that Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) meets him, first to claim that he has no knowledge of Gilead's plans to plan war against Canada and encroach on the neighboring country. Commander Lawrence seems certain that Blaine would play a key role in this but Blaine is not ready to confess to anything. 

At the time that Blaine visits Commander Lawrence, he thanks the commander for all his services to Gilead and also alludes to the council's decision that Commander Lawrence is now to be sentenced to death. The end is nearing for Commander Lawrence and he is also aware of the same. However, after having seen the trailers and teasers, we are certain that this cannot be the end for June's former ally. But who is it that comes to help him? For now, high chances are that Blaine, who also happens to be June's lover, will find a way out for the Commander. 

While his intention may not have to do with June, he is definitely someone who can find an escape route for the commander. Or, the other possibility is of Commander Lawrence surrendering to the high officials of Gilead and providing them with information that could break apart Mayday.
