The pandemic has gripped the entire world and until vaccines arrive, the advisable method to contain the infection spread is to sit at home. This has allowed most of us to pick up new skills or polish existing ones. Experimenting with food and learning new recipes is one such skill. The return of  'The Great British Baking Show' will help to add to the list of things to whip up in the kitchen.

Release Date

'The Great British Baking Show' Season 11 premieres on Netflix on September 25, Friday. While in the United Kingdom, the show airs on September 22.

Plot

The competition series challenges a group of amateur bakers who, based on the task, create and present innovative confections, desserts, and cakes to the judges and hosts. But this time it's different because the iconic tent is gone. Usually, the competitors gather outdoors underneath a tent, which according to a Distractify article, is meant to mimic the classic British "village fete." But this time, the production unit had to make changes to the set design in an effort to keep every cast and crew member safe amid the COVID-19 crisis.

It took two months to film the show, during which all were forced to quarantine and live in a "biosphere." Producer Kieran Smith told Radio Times how tough it was to tape during such a crisis. "Bake Off is normally filmed across 12 or 13 weeks, predominantly at weekends, and that’s what the bakers were told would happen at the start,” he elaborated and added that the format had to be changed because of the rapid spread of the virus.

“But within a month we asked, ‘Can you take six weeks off work and come and live in a biosphere?’ Everything was complicated, everything was different, but everybody wanted to do it."

Cast

On hosting duties will be Matt Lucas (replacing Sandi Toksvig) and Noel Fielding, and Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will be filling the judges' table.
