'The Great British Baking Show': Fans furious Rowan was picked over Makbul, blame 'racism' for decision
Spoilers for 'The Great British Baking Show'
Bolton-based accountant, Makbul Patel, 51, was eliminated in the latest episode of 'The Great British Baking Show.' Based on the decision of the judges, Makbul's confections for the biscuit round was not impressive. Fans, however, believe that he had more potential and was relieved of his baking duties rather prematurely.
The bakers were tasked with creating batches of macaroons and florentines. Judge Prue Leith thought that Makbul's biscuits thought were "flat" and the whole idea was a little "clumsy." Makbul becomes the second baker to be sent home after Durham-based diagnostic radiographer Loriea Campbell-Clarey.
While fans cannot seem to get over Makbul's exit, they are equally stunned at how Rowan's stint on the show was extended despite performing poorly. In round one, the bakers were asked to make marzipan, for which he had elaborate plans. But with time, Rowan realized his idea to create a complicated confection was too ambitious and hence tweaked his design so that he was able to wrap up on time. Although Judges weren't impressed, they didn't eliminate Rowan.
"Furious that Mak was sent home for the crime of 'not being adventurous enough' when loads of previous contestants have played it safe in the first couple of weeks, only to wow us later. And Rowan getting a THIRD chance after absolutely refusing to follow advice. Travesty. #GBBO," a fan commented.

"How they picked Mak over Roman is just a scandal! Rowan has been a shambles from first week and consistently bad. Joke. #GBBO," a user tweeted. "How did Mak get sent home over Roman?? Mak came 4th in the challenge with Macaroons, Rowan came literally last but hes still in the competition? Oh okay #GBBO," another expressed.

However, Makbul seems to have taken the defeat in his stride by writing a heartwarming letter that highlights how grateful he has been for the opportunities the show brought him. "The stars aligned for me for series 11 (2020). The world was in turmoil but for me, 2020 was all about the Bake Off. The privilege to have been selected and go in front of the nation with my quirky features was unbelievable," he expressed in his note and added that it was an honor to be a part of the show.
