'The Glory Part-2' perfectly depicts power game vs justice
'The Glory Part 2' is all about building up the tension, turning a knife slowly, and causing the characters and the audience enough pain to feel panic. Not a single plan in this series goes off without a hitch, and it’s what the characters do as their lives shatter that reveals much about them. However, actress Song Hye-Kyo delivers a praiseworthy performance with her subtle but intimidating portrayal of the show's main character, Moon Dong-eun. The show wastes no time revealing this character's tragic back story and the ultimate revenge plan she is plotting against her wrong do-ers. Regardless, it can be triggering for some people as the theme of the series is incredibly dark and includes certain portrayals of self-harm.
A group of friends with mutual intimidation
'The Glory Part 2' manages to explore the dynamic hate that radiates through the series’ extended cast, particularly Ji-Yeon. This complexity and reaction to Dong-Eun’s orchestration are expertly created and executed. Furthermore, The five are almost caricatures of well-known tropes. Ice queen Yeon-Jin (Lim Ji-yeon), god-fearing hypocrite Sa-ra (Kim Hieora), playboy heir Jae-jun (Park Sung-hoon), gold digger Hye-jeong (Cha Joo-young), and cocky punk (Myeong-o) Kim Gun-woo but they’re elevated by the intricacies of their twisted relationships. Additionally, the group’s dynamic is based on shared history and mutual intimidation, and it’s fascinating to watch all of these bad people behaving badly (and alternately turn on and rely on each other) as Dong-eun’s revenge plan begins exposing decades of secrets.
Regardless, every minute of 'The Glory' is well worth it. A masterclass in escalation, 'The Glory' is perfection.
