'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier': An A-List cast and the element of continuity makes it one of the biggest draws for Disney+
Robert Downey Jr. suited up as Iron Man in 2008 and what followed was the emergence of new superheroes in the MCU. A total of 23 movies were made over the next 11 years, each of them a box office hit.
With the Infinity Saga rounding up with 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' and the massive 'Avengers: Endgame', the next thing on the Marvel roster is a list of new movies and shows that are set to make their debut on Disney +.
'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' is undoubtedly the biggest draws and the streaming network will be banking on the Anthony Mackie- Sebastian Stan starrer to get the same traction as the movies.
'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' will also be the first Marvel show on the streamer and this makes the odds of the show's success much greater. Marvel's first entry into television was with 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' and will end up with Season 7 making its way to ABC in 2020.
The series centered around Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson, who is alive (he was shown to be killed by Loki in 'Avengers') and his agents who would work in the shadows and neutralize threats. While they had fleeting references to the MCU movies, the plot was standalone.
This was followed by a list of superhero shows in 'Daredevil', 'Luke Cage' and 'Jessica Jones'. While each of these shows had a good run, what sets 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' apart is the big names that are part of the cast.
Not only does this mean the series is an expensive project, but it also lends an element of continuity as it deals with life after Captain America.
With 'Black Widow' pretty much being a storyline that deals with Natasha Romanoff's (Scarlett Johansson) life before S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers, 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' will be the one looked at to form direct connections to the upcoming movies and shows.
Directed by Kari Skogland, 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, and Daniel Brühl and will be available on Disney+. The series will debut in the fall of 2020.
