How to watch ‘The Copenhagen Test’? Simu Liu’s sci-fi thriller will keep you on edge
While 'Avatars' and the 'Doomsdays' have been generating buzz on the movie circuit, and 'Stranger Things' is giving audiences enough to binge, Simu Liu's 'The Copenhagen Test' is now taking its share of the spotlight ahead of its release.
The eight-episode spy thriller features 'Shang Chi' star Liu as Alex Hale, the titular character, and the trailer sees him hunt for a mole in his secret agency while the lines between what's real and fake blur rapidly around him. 'The Copenhagen Test' drops all episodes on Saturday, December 27, at 6 AM ET on Peacock. It's a bit of a wait for those in Canada, as the series releases January 6 on Showcase. The thriller releases should be early in 2026 in the UK, and will be available to stream in the U.K. on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
Per Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis reads, "Alexander Hale, a first-generation Chinese-American analyst, is stuck downstairs at his top-secret spy agency, The Orphanage. But when he suspects he might be the mole they're hunting for, he realizes that his eyes and ears have been hacked."
"Keeping the fiction alive that he's unaware of the hack, he works with his agency to hunt those responsible, even as The Orphanage builds a fake world around him, assigning him a new "girlfriend," promoting him to a new dangerous mission and sending him down a rabbit hole where it's not clear what's real and what's fake in his own life. When the lines begin to blur, Alexander is forced to take control of his own destiny and discover where his true allegiance lies."
Liu stars as Alexander Hale, along with Melissa Barrera as Michelle, Sinclair Daniel as Parker, Brian d’Arcy James as John Moira, Mark O’Brien as Cobb, Sara Amini as Ellie, Saul Rubinek as Victor Simonek
Kathleen Chalfant as St. George, Hannah Cruz as Rachel Kasperian, and Adam Godley as Schiff.
In related news, Liu spoke of the Jason Bourne series as his favorite franchise during his interview with THR. "I love the grittiness and realism of it," he said of spy fiction as a genre. "I thought Paul Greengrass did a fantastic job of developing this very unique visual language that felt real and frenetic. I love Bond. I am such a sucker for the genre in general. And it’s not lost on me that it’s rare to see someone like me getting to play that role. It’s been very meaningful for me to get to do my version of that."
