Vince Young was once one of the most promising figures in American football. After making history at the University of Texas and leading the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship, Young joined the NFL with high hopes. His story of how a star quarterback became an example of a career marked by injuries, public controversy and personal drama is now being told in the next episode of ‘Untold.’

‘Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young’ will be available on Netflix starting on August 25. The 78-minute documentary film will remind us of Young's career and show us what happened to the man after fame, stress, and expectations began to catch up with him. It all started with the legendary 2006 Rose Bowl, where Young led Texas past USC to win the 2005 national championship.

However, the challenges in Young's life began well before his NFL career. Even during his time at Texas, he faced personal struggles. At one point, he considered leaving the program before mentor Steve McNair helped convince him to stay. After an excellent collegiate career, Young recorded 6,040 passing yards and 44 touchdowns against 28 interceptions, while adding 3,127 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground, he was selected by the Tennessee Titans and spent six seasons in the NFL, earning two Pro Bowl selections.

But his professional career also became defined by clashes, particularly his troubled relationship with Titans head coach Jeff Fisher. Their disagreements played out publicly and became part of the wider conversation surrounding Young's struggles in the league.

The documentary explores how Young's difficult upbringing may have shaped the way he dealt with pressure and conflict. Director John Henion said the film examines the contrast between Young's remarkable physical talent and his personal development, including the challenges he faced after growing up without his father and having to take on responsibility at a young age.

For Young, this is an unusually personal project. The former quarterback has largely avoided extensive media interviews in recent years, but he opens up for the documentary alongside people who knew him at different stages of his life.

Former Texas coach Mack Brown, teammates, opponents, family members, and financial advisors also share their perspectives. Perhaps most notably, Jeff Fisher appears to discuss their turbulent relationship and reflect on what went wrong during Young's time with the Titans.

Rather than simply asking why Vince Young's NFL career did not match the heights many expected, Netflix's ‘Untold’ appears to explore the more complicated question behind his rise and fall: what happens when extraordinary success arrives before someone has the tools to handle everything that comes with it.
