Spoilers for 'The Chi' Season 3 Episode 1 'Foe' 'Nem'

One of the new characters to be introduced in this season of 'The Chi' was Miriam A Hyman's Dre. This introduction was shown right up in the first few minutes as she was shown to be marrying Nina Williams (Tyla Abercrumbie). While much wasn't told about Dre, what was known was Keisha's (Birgundi Baker) hate for the newest member of the family.

While exchanging vows Dre makes a heartfelt speech about how she loves her new family and would be there for them and just adds to the pleasant surprise 'The Chi' throws in. But Keisha seems unaffected by the whole scenario. Earlier, Hyman had shed light on her character in an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW). Dre, initially slated to play a high school guidance counselor, said her character shifted a bit from how it was initially announced. "Once I came on board, Dre's mission became less about being a guidance counselor for high school students and more about being a supportive partner to and for my new wife and for my two stepchildren, Keisha and Kevin. Our family faces quite a lot in Season 3 and Dre assists in a major way to help resolve some of those issues that arise," Hyman said.

Talking about her research, Hyman explained she completely immersed herself in the role. "Really wanted to understand the world and characters that I would be interacting with. When it came to my hair, wardrobe, and such for Dre, I was able to add my spin on things to make her really authentic and believable. I spoke with the producers and creative team to hone in on who Dre was and who she could be so that she would resonate with viewers." With Kevin Williams (Alex R Hibbert) slated to play a major role in this series, and Keisha is shown to be abducted in the final minutes of the show, only time will tell how Dre will be a helpful and binding force over the course of the series.

What are your thoughts on Hyman's character, Dre?

'The Chi' Season 3 airs Sundays 9 pm ET on Showtime.
