What is the plot of 'The Brothers Sun'?
'The Brothers Sun' revolves around Charles Sun (Justin Chien) who takes the responsibility to protect his family after his gangster father is shot in Taiwan. Charles moved to Los Angeles to reunite with his mother and younger brother who left Taiwan 15 years ago to live incognito.
The Sun family faces relentless attacks from masked assassins, compelling them to uncover the identity of their assailants and eliminate the threat. Initially suspecting Sleepy Chan, the leader of the second-largest Triad, the family's assumptions are shattered when Sleepy Chan is also killed.
As the plot unfolds, the family gradually unravels the mystery, discovering the existence of 'Boxers,' a community formed in opposition to the Triads.
'The Brothers Sun' ending explained
In the last episode of 'The Brothers Sun', Big Sun orders Charles to kill Bruce (Sam Song Li) for joining hands with the Boxers.
Unable to carry out the act of killing his younger brother, Charles confides in his mother, Eileen. Shockingly, she reveals that the childhood 'Chairleg' assassination incident was orchestrated by his father to test his abilities, leaving Charles deeply unsettled.
Encouraged by Bruce, Charles decides to break away from the world of crime and confront his father. However, when Charles admits he couldn't kill Bruce, Big Sun orders Xing to proceed with the assassination. In his attempt to intervene, Charles finds himself getting arrested.
Deputy DA Alexis urges Charles to reveal Big Sun's whereabouts in exchange for immunity, presenting him with a challenging decision laden with emotions.
Meanwhile, Eileen gets in action and kills Xing who broke into the motel to assassinate Bruce. Alexis calls Bruce to convince Charles to give details on Big Sun's whereabouts. Bruce reveals that he plans to kill his father and Charles helps him by revealing his location.
Bruce says that their family doesn't work with cops and walks out of the police station. Upon reaching the safe house, Big Sun asks Bruce to accompany him to Taiwan and take charge of the empire.
However, Bruce declines the offer and shoots him. He makes sure that his father lives to call the ambulance and eventually gets convicted.
Eileen, Bruce, and Charles finally enjoy a day without a threat to their lives. While Bruce thinks that the world of crime is left far behind, Eileen expresses that she wants to go to Taiwan to be the Dragon Head.
She also suggests Charles stay in LA and start a new life. She helps him open a bakery so that he can finally follow his passion.
However, being the responsible son, Charles decides to accompany her to Taiwan. Before leaving, Eileen asserts that she won't kill her husband, Big Sun, but will make him suffer.
Disguised as a nurse, she alters his medical chart and makes sure he never makes it out of the hospital bed.
Will there be a second season of 'The Brothers Sun'?
'The Brothers Sun' Season 1 ends with Eileen and Charles leaving for Taiwan to take over the empire. There is no official confirmation of the renewal of the show.
The lead characters have a happy ending but there's still scope for another season where Charles and Eileen will rule Taiwan and the new threats they will face.
Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see if Bruce ever goes back to Taiwan to take a closer look at his "family business."
