Spoilers for Season 4 Episode 1 of  'The Bold Type' titled 'Legends of the Fall Issue'

The girls walk into Scarlet one morning and the office is being packed up. "Where's Jacqueline?" is the question on everyone's confused mind since she is nowhere to be found.

And then it is revealed - Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin)  is no longer the editor-in-chief of Scarlet Magazine. A glee-ridden Patrick Duchand (Peter Vack) announces to the staff of Scarlet that he has now taken over Jacqueline's role.

Jacqueline had just sent the best issue of her editorial career to the prints so Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee) and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) cannot understand this sudden change. Insubordination is not an option since they strongly believe that Jacqueline's fearlessness is what made Scarlet special. So the girls set out to fix the issue. Sutton goes to talk to Richard Hunter (Sam Page), where she finds out that the reason for Jacqueline's dismissal could indeed be subordination for she provoked RJ Safford (Aidan Devine) and the board when she went ahead with printing the issue. Kat then goes to talk to Patrick, where she gets a call from RJ and Jane goes to meet Jacqueline.

Despite being fired Jacqueline is proud of making an inclusive issue and building a magazine that matters so much. She has almost accepted the fact that she is no longer the editor-in-chief of Scarlet, but that won't be stopping her from fighting for women.

The girls figure out that the issue is still in the printing press before they will be destroyed and set out to get a few copies for Jacqueline, for keepsake. And while they manage to steal a few copies, they then decide to distribute the copies among the people who were featured in the issue, which leads to a leak.

Scarlet is undergoing a transformation but no one is willing to accept it - not even its loyal readership that welcomed the leaked issue. So Kat makes a strong argument in front of the board for Jacqueline coming back because she knows what Scarlet readers want to read.

RJ accepts this and meets Jacqueline just before her domestic violence awareness walk, where he tells her that Scarlet is going all digital. What is in store for the magazine and the girls?

'The Bold Type' airs on Freeform on Thursdays at 9 pm EST.
