MIAMI, FLORIDA: ABC News Studios, in its latest offering, presents the horrifying story of Australian-American serial killer, Christopher Wilder, who abducted, raped and killed a dozen of young girls, before accidentally getting himself killed in 1984.
'The Beauty Queen Killer: 9 Days of Terror' is a new true crime docuseries, streaming on Hulu from May 16 onwards.
As the series showcases his chilling rampage through exclusive archival footage and exclusive interviews, viewers are curious to know more about his how Christopher Wilder died.
Christopher Wilder got himself killed in a gun battle
Wilder kidnapped at least twelve young women and girls, killing eight of them, during a six-week, cross-country crime spree in the United States in early 1984.
On April 13, he stopped at a service station in Colebrook, New Hampshire to ask directions to Canada. Two troopers of the New Hampshire state approached Wilder, who retreated to his car to grab his weapon.
The official website for FBI states Wilder died of gunshot wounds during the gun battle.
A report by History claims that Wilder apparently shot himself to death during his encounter with state troopers to avoid capture.
'The Beauty Queen Killer: 9 Days of Terror' documents Christopher Wilder's brutal crimes
Christopher Wilder was a wealthy race-car driver living in Florida. He began his abduction and killing spree in February, making 20-year-old Rosario Teresa Gonzalez his first victim.
In six-weeks, he travelled through Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nevada and California, approaching attractive young women with offers of modeling gigs.
He would torture and rape them before shooting, stabbing or strangling them to death.
40 years after Wilder's death, the survivors of his crimes, including Tina Marie Risico, who at 16 years of age, was kidnapped by Wilder, narrate the unimaginable torture and terror endured by them.
The official synopsis of the docuseries reads, "In 1984, 16-year-old Tina Risico is kidnapped by a killer who takes her on a hellish road trip – and forces her to participate in a brutal crime."
