Claire Champlin had come on the show along with her friend Brook Roberts. The pair had been TV hosts and were looking forward to building memories together while making sure their friendship grows in the process. While the duo had been working hard in the game, one thing that made Claire famous was the watermelon incident she had.

In one of the challenges, Claire had to operate an old medical weapon tool. While doing so, the cast members had to throw a watermelon using the tool and make sure it was aimed properly. Claire decided to be the one to do the task. Even though she was trying her best to aim it right, things were not going her way.

Things took a different turn when the watermelon came and hit her face instead of aiming forward. The incident shocked everyone on the show and also got millions of views on YouTube within a matter of a few hours. Fans were quick to revisit the incident over and over again. Even after all these years, fans have not forgotten the incident thanks to the season premiere of the show.

As the season premiere had a look at some of the old moments from the show, it was no surprise that Claire's video of getting hit by the watermelon also showed up. She had previously admitted that she got the name of 'watermelon girl' after the incident took place.

"I couldn't feel my face. My lip started swelling up and I had a little black eye. Another medical team was waiting for me (after the challenge) and they gave me some Panadol and told me I was going to be fine. Then a producer came up to me and said, "Thanks for our Emmy this year," Claire said in an interview with NZ Herald.

Speaking to the outlet in 2019, Claire revealed she is living in Arizona and taking care of children while also working on her interior design as her new venture. Even though the pair came second on the show, there is no doubt that Claire's iconic moment has made the show memorable for many.

'The Amazing Race' airs on Wednesdays at 9 pm ET on CBS.
