With just one episode of 'Songland' out viewers are already invested in the series.

NBC's newest series 'Songland' recently premiered and it gives aspiring songwriters a chance to perform an original song for visiting guest artistes like John Legend, Jonas Brothers, Meghan Trainor and many more.

This how the series' format works:  Every week 'Songland' invites four/five songwriters who compete with each other. They perform their original songs for the judges and guest artistes and the three songwriters who impressed the panel with their song the most will be chosen to work with the three mentors/judges  - Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean, and Shane McAnally.

The mentors will critique their performances and help them produce/rewrite their songs. They will then perform their refined songs for the guest artiste who will then choose one contestant's song and record it on their own.

Opening this season as the guest artiste was John Legend, and at the end of the competition he picked Tebby Burrows' song 'We Need Love' to record. After hearing the fine-tuned version of Burrows' song, Legend was captivated by her voice and said, "The verses feel really nice now.  It's super conversational. ... It really gave me chills, I felt it and (I'm) ready to record it."

Hailing from Miami, Burrows is not new in the music game. She has been writing music since the age of 12. Though Burrows was born in Miami she grew up in the Bahamas. She moved to Florida to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University and after she graduated she spent some of her time living in New York City working day jobs so she could perform at night.

But eventually, the songwriter moved back to Miami. Later,  one of her friends introduced her to Cool & Dre who have worked with artists like Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, and Fat Joe. They helped Burrows produce her single 'Feel Alright.'

In an interview with  Nassau Guardian Burrows spoke about the song saying, “I remember looking out the window, feeling mixed emotions about where my life was going, and then I had an epiphany to let go and trust the process. ‘Feel Alright’ is a reminder to stay present, grounded, and trust that everything will work out in the end.”

Following that Burrows opened the show for Grammy-Award winning singer Joss Stone and she has also performed at Irie Weekend, New York City’s famed BB King’s Blues Club. In 2019, Burrows released her first EP “Love in the Remedy.”

No wonder the panel chose Burrows to audition for Legend, and it turned out to be a win not just for her but for the EGOT winner as well.
