'Switched': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the teen drama coming on VoD
Remember good old revenge teen dramas where the clumsy kid would finally have the last word on the queen bee after years of being bullied? Well, those dramas seem to have taken a different turn under Netflix's craftsmanship if you consider 'Sierra Burgess Is a Loser' and 'Insatiable' but this upcoming Denise Richards and John Schneider film seems to be more 'Freaky Friday' than 'Mean Girls'. Titled 'Switched', here's all you need to know about it.
Release date
'Switched' premiers this Friday, September 4, on VoD and will be available to rent and buy thereon.
Plot
According to its official IMDb synopsis, "Tired of being bullied, Cassandra Evans prays that her nemesis, Katie Sharp, the queen bee of social media, would know what it's like to walk a day in her shoes. Her prayer is answered in an unexpected way when they get 'Switched'."
Cast
It's a star-studded affair for the upcoming teen drama. Madeleine Byrne plays the 'It Girl' Katie Sharp, her mother Victoria played by Denise Richards, and John Schneider as her dad, Ken Sharp.
Miya Horcher plays our bullied heroine Cassandra Evans, Vanessa Merrell plays Olivia, and Lauren Chavez-Myers rounds up the main cast as Cristiana.
Creator
John K.D. Graham helms the project serving both as director and co-writer, alongside Alexandra Boylan and Andrea Polnaszek. Graham is best known for his work in 'The Avengers' (2012), 'True Grit' (2010) and 'Catching Faith' (2015).
Trailer
A classic representation of Regina George, almost as if a clone of the queen bee from 'Mean Girls' but this time – a brunette – such is Katie Sharp in the trailer of 'Switched'. Her counterpart Cassandra is the sweet nerdy girl who wants everything Katie is and had – looks, confidence, popularity – et all. As expected Katie is unnecessarily mean towards Cassandra, but the real twist of fate happens when the two get 'Freaky Friday'-ed. As in, their souls' swap and each is living in the other's body. What happens next is a tide of affairs one can expect too well, but give it another shot to witness the dramedy in its teaser snippet here.
