Who is Danny McCray?

Born on March 10, 1988, Danny McCray is an American footballer who has been associated with the game since 2010. But his journey hasn’t been easy because he went out undrafted in the first NFL draft. However, he was lucky enough to be picked up as an undrafted free agent by Dallas Cowboys.

The athlete led the team for two years in special team tackles and became the first Cowboys player to do so. After playing with the Cowboys for four years, he got a chance to play with Chicago Bears for one year before he was signed by Dallas Cowboys once again in 2015. He posted 4 special teams tackles and wasn't re-signed after the season.

According to his CBS bio, McCray is “competitive, charismatic and optimistic”. He absolutely hates liars and those who don’t have consideration for people's time and space. In his bio, he has also mentioned that his mom is his biggest hero because of the sacrifices she made to take care of three children single-handedly. “When my father passed, she was left to take care of three kids alone. She worked two jobs plus side work to provide for us. There is nothing she wouldn't do for us. I take strength to be strong when a tragedy hits her, she never complained or let us see her cry. She did that for us. I owe her everything that I can give.”

His time in NFL has made him ready for ‘Survivor’

Just like ‘Survivor’, the game of NFL is also quite competitive and physical. The tackles, the aggression and to prove yourself in hostile territory is a trademark of both the activities. In an interview with Parade, McCray believes that he is ready for the competition as NFL has taught him a lot about getting what you really want.

Talking about the show, he said, “It would be my route to the NFL. It was not easy. I did not get drafted. Nobody expected me to make the team, so I had to grind from the bottom to get there. And once I made it, it was a very exhilarating feeling. But it taught me a lot about expectations and how hard you have to work to get what you really want.”

McCray’s strategy to win would be to take everyone in confidence

The reality TV show is not just about physical strength, it is also about mental strength as well. You would need to think of many things while moving forward in the game and that’s how McCray will be playing the game as well. In the interview, McCray suggested that he will take everyone in confidence and make them believe that a person with physical strength is not a threat, but a person with all the minds is actually the biggest reason for concern.

“I’m going to try to make sure that people know that the physical threat isn’t the person you should be worried about. It’s the people that are good at puzzles, the people that have this strong social game. There are no individual challenges where if you run faster, jump high, it makes you an automatic winner. The game just doesn’t work that way,” he said.

McCray would think of her daughter when feeling low

The football player is married to Kiki McCray, a psychotherapist and the couple shares a daughter named Zoe together. When asked what he’ll think about when he would be at his lowest during the game, McCray said that he would be thinking about his daughter to bounce back into the game. The contestant noted, “The birth of my daughter. That was one of the most exciting times of my life. It changed my life. Me and my wife, it was our happiest moment. So I’ll pull from that. I’ll see her face, and it’ll bring me back to where I need to be.”

McCray is competing to win

In his CBS profile, McCray has noted that he is coming on the show to win it. He believes that he hasn’t failed in anything that he has put his mind to and doesn’t intend to change that.

‘Survivor’ will be hitting small screens with Season 41 on Wednesday, September 22 at 8 pm.
