'Surpasses the original': Fans give massive thumbs up to 'Prey' for wholesome entertainment

'Prey' tells the story of a young woman named Naru who embarks on a journey to find something that's been terrorizing the great plains

The newest movie in the ‘Predator’ franchise, titled ‘Prey’, has finally been released on Hulu and opened to a rousing reception. It was one of the most highly-anticipated movies of 2022 and everyone was excited to see what new things this franchise can offer. The first ‘Predator’ movie came out in 1987 and featured Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. However, ‘Prey’ is much different than the original movie because it has a different setting, different location, and also, a much different alien creature.

The story takes place in 1719 and sees the great Comanche Tribe ruling the Great Plains of North America. The Comanche warriors killed prey to survive in the jungle and were a force to be reckoned with. A young girl named Naru (Amber Midthunder) aspires to be a warrior too, but men think that she isn’t ready to be a warrior. Everything changes when she witnesses shocking things around her and believes that something dangerous is out there. It turns out that the prey she is stalking is none other than an alien creature with highly-advanced weapons. As the movie progresses, it becomes a story about the survival of the fittest as Naru and the alien creature get ready for the final showdown.

The best part of the movie is how fresh it feels and that was exactly what the franchise needed. It’s a shame that this movie hasn’t been released in theatres. Nevertheless, fans flocked Hulu in large numbers to see the movie and share their reactions on social media. Fans absolutely love the latest movie and feel that ‘Prey’ is the best ‘Predator’ movie since the original.

One of the fans wrote, “#Prey absolutely without a doubt delivered, not only with the hunt but the will to. Amber Midthunder rules in this and is a badass to see. It does the "Kill or Be Killed" route very well, you feel it when the predator gets closer every time. Talk about engagement all around.” Another social media user said, “WOOOOO BOI!! is TOP 5 TOP 5 of the year! Some of the best action and cinematography you'll see all year. Brava to all involved.” Another fan stated, “So #PreyMovie is 100% the second best Predator film after the original. If all we get from now on are prequels where a Predator fights different historical warriors across different centuries, I would love that. Go watch!”

Meanwhile, another fan reminded everyone that it took 35 years for another “good” Predator movie and also asked the viewers to watch the movie in the Comanche language. The user wrote, “It only took 35 years but there’s FINALLY another good Predator movie. Go for the Comanche dub.” Another social media user said, “#Prey is one of the rare rare franchise sequels that might actually surpass its original. Kinda wild that’s the second time that’s happened this year following Top Gun: Maverick.”

The movie stars Amber Midthunder as Naru and sees Dakota Beavers playing the role of Taabe. On the other hand, former professional Basketball player Dane DiLiegro has donned the costume of the legendary monster. Currently, the movie holds a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated movie in the franchise. The 1987 movie comfortably sits at 80%.

‘Prey’ is currently available for streaming on Hulu.
