'Summertime' Season 1 Ending Explained: Did Ale end his relationship with Summer before leaving for Spain?
Spoilers for Season 1 of Netflix's 'Summertime'
Just like that, summer has come to an end. And as the clouds roll in for a long, harsh winter on the Adriatic coast, our protagonists are reminded of the sore reality that some relationships and connections must come to an end.
Edo's (Giovanni Maini) summer fling is over. He is a little sad about that, but he has always been in love with Summer (Rebecca Coco Edogamhe). Their friendship saw a fair share of disturbances over the season but he probably needed that time off of her to get over her.
With his summer fling leaving the city, they bid farewell on a good note, with the prospect of seeing each other again.
Blue (Alice Ann Edogamhe), Summer's sister who nursed a crush on Edo for the longest time, had sworn that she didn't want to return to school. After getting involved in a hit and run, her spirits broken, she didn't want to go back to studying. But she is seen studying in the finale.
Sofia (Amanda Campana) never ended up confessing her feelings for Summer. Instead, she deleted her dating profile – tired of jumping from one woman to the other. She now will be focusing on herself.
If there is any fulfilling relationship in the series, it is that of Dario (Andrea Lattanzi) and Sofia. Over the course of the season, their friendship continues to grow to lead to a heartwarming final exchange.
Dario, who finally lost his virginity on the beach with Martina, now looks like he will be a frequent user of dating apps. He derived the strength from Sofia and finally let go of his love for Madda.
Madda finally comes to terms with the fact that her relationship with Ale (Ludovico Tersigni) is over for good and will be focusing on herself. This is a long time coming since she spent a lot of time and energy behind a boy who didn't even treat her well.
In the end, when Summer's mother Isabella (Thony) sings her a song, she gets overwhelmed. This is perhaps the only emotion we have seen the actress display over the eight episodes.
With Ale leaving for Spain to join a new moto racing team, Summer is left behind. Did they end their relationship before he left or are they working on a long-distance? With Summer finally confessing to Ale about her true feelings, it was the last exchange between them.
The two have developed a strong emotional connection to let it go and with their final goodbye, it shouldn't come as a surprise that they have chosen to stay apart.
Isn't that the crux of 'Summertime' anyway? Each of the characters discovers something about themselves that they did not know. And perhaps Ale and Summer have each discovered their emotional strengths. Will we get a Season 2? It seems unlikely since the makers shut most of the open chapters for the characters. Till then, ciao!
Season 1 of 'Summertime' is currently streaming on Netflix.
