Ever since the original cast list was announced, everyone has been wondering just what DC characters would be portrayed in the film. This 'Suicide Squad' cast has been one of the largest of any superhero film since 'Avengers: Endgame,' though given that Gunn promised that multiple characters would be killed off during the course of the movie, Gunn had the freedom to use as many obscure characters as he could for the film and there are some strange ones. 'The Suicide Squad' director James Gunn finally provided a first look at the anticipated movie at this weekend's DC FanDome event.

First, there are several characters who will be returning from the first 'Suicide Squad' film, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Adding to the cast are some from familiar faces in some very obscure roles. Idris Elba will be playing Bloodsport, Nathan Fillion the villain TPK, Michael Rooker as Savant and Peter Capaldi will be playing the Thinker. The new cast list also features some of the more ridiculous DC heroes, including Polka Dot Man, played by David Dasmalchian, Sean Gunn as Weasel, King Shark - who remained untitled - a female version of the world conquering Mongul named "Mongal," played by Mayling NG and John Cena's Peacemaker. The Peacemaker is described as a "douchey Captain America."

The panel, hosted by Gunn himself, saw the director answer questions from fans about 'Suicide Squad,' his inspirations and which characters were his favorite. The director mentioned that he was inspired by the first 'Suicide Squad' comics writer, John Ostrander, who visited the set and consulted on the film. Gunn also had a trivia quiz with the cast, before revealing what the fans had been waiting for - behind the scenes footage of 'Suicide Squad,' complete with the first looks of all of the cast in their superhero, antihero and supervillain costumes. They're seen amidst a great number of explosions on an unnamed island as the cast talked about the upcoming film.

The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on August 6, 2021. The 'Suicide Squad' Encore panels air August 23 at 10.55 am and 6.55 pm, EST.
