As the infamous love triangle on ‘Stumptown’ took a backseat, the latest episodes took a deep dive into the characters, exploring them individually. While Dex Parios (Cobie Smulders) struggles to come to terms with Ansel Parios' (Cole Sibus) newfound independence, Grey McConnell (Jake Johnson) and Miles Hoffman (Michael Ealy) have joined hands to bust a carjacking ring.

In the previous episode ‘Reality Checks Don’t Bounce’, Miles approaches Grey on the pretext of one of his investigations, involving carjacking. Although Grey was reluctant to be involved in anything associated with his criminal past, he’s left with no choice but to enter the den of lawbreakers, when Miles reminds the former of his debt to the police officer, who saved him from the Kane situation.

Grey agrees to help Miles once as he owes him. He goes undercover as an informant, meets with the fraudsters and using the skills he developed over the years when he was a criminal himself, helps Miles track them. As they manage to resolve a case successfully, Miles asks Grey to help him understand the bigger play in the game, but this time offering something in return. The bartender turned undercover agrees to seal the deal if he gets 13 % of what they get from the bust.

However, Miles and Grey were unaware of what they were getting into and clearly underestimated the members of the carjacking ring.

In ‘The Past and the Furious’, Grey manages to make a good first impression striking the right note with the carjacking ring. But, what he isn’t able to comprehend is his feelings for Max (Inbar Lavi) which become evident when he goes to the length of asking her if she ever wants out of her present life. On observing Grey’s inclination towards the criminal, Miles warns him against the perils of establishing a relationship with a highly manipulative woman, whose records trace their roots back to several crimes.

Towards the end of episode 11, Grey’s new boss asks him to help him dispose of heroin, which was stolen by his gang.

It remains to be seen in the next episode if Grey can bring himself together to hold fast on his misdirected feelings or if he gives in to his desires in the pursuit of Max, who might as well be using him to save herself.
