'Strange Academy': Why Emily Bright and her magical superpowers make her an excellent pick for MCU's roster

In her debut issue, we see her achieve feats of magic that most experienced practitioners would shy away from, including keeping death itself at bay

Spoiler alert for 'Strange Academy' #1

In the world of comic books, there's no shortage of great characters with established histories that stretch back decades. However, it's always refreshing when you get to meet a new character with the potential to stick around for years to come.

Emily Bright is one such character. Introduced in Skottie Young's 'Strange Academy' #1, this youngster has the potential to become the most powerful mystic Marveldom has ever seen. 

In her debut issue, we see her achieve feats of magic that most experienced practitioners would shy away from, including keeping death itself at bay Darth Plagueis-style. As it stands, Emily appears to be the main character of 'Strange Academy' and we expect to see great things from her in stories to come. 

'Strange Academy' itself has all the ingredients necessary to make the jump from page to screen. There's plenty of magical wonders coupled with teenage drama and some very interesting characters who would feel right at home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, none more so than Emily.

We can easily see Emily joining the cast of a 'Doctor Strange' movie as an apprentice to the Sorcerer Supreme or even just a person in need of some quick guidance from the more experienced mystic.

Having such a young character who holds so much power join Doctor Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) could help bring out a new side of the character, one that's ready to be a teacher and guide and not just a practitioner.

Even if that doesn't work out, Emily's story would be perfect for a Disney+ series as she could provide a different perspective on magic in the MCU while also endearing to the streaming service's key demographic.

It might not happen this year or maybe not even next year but we're certain that bringing Emily to the screen is just what the MCU needs to brighten its magical future. 

'Strange Academy' #1 is written by Skottie Young, illustrated by Humberto Ramos, colored by Edgar Delgado and lettered by Clayton Cowles. It released on March 4.
