Disney + newest original 'Stargirl' is often thought to be DC's upcoming web-television series that goes by the same name. But, this one has a completely different premise and from the looks of it will have a lot to offer to the hard-to-reach teenage/ young adult audience.

Release Date

Disney+’s Stargirl is all set to premiere on March 13, Friday.

Plot

The feature film is based on Jerry Spinelli’s novel of the same title and follows the journey of Leo Borlock and how he finds himself drawn to Susan 'Stargirl' Caraway, the newest entrant of Mica High School, Arizona. He is shy, unassuming and withdrawn. With time, he develops feelings for Stargirl, which he doesn't want to admit and that is what makes it difficult for the two to pair up. But, Stargirl picks up on his subtle hints and one day asks him out, straight if he wanted to ask her something. It was then that their epic friendship began and Leo started to realize his own true potential and that he is better than what he gives himself credit for.

Cast

The film is lead by Graham Verchere (Leo) and America's Got Talent Season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal (Stargirl), who are ably supported by Giancarlo Esposito of 'The Mandalorian,' Maximiliano Hernández of 'Avengers: Endgame,' and Darby Stanchfield.

Grace VanderWaal (far L) and Graham Verchere (far R) of 'Stargirl' and Giancarlo Esposito (C) of 'The Mandalorian' took part today in the Disney+ Showcase at Disney’s D23 EXPO 2019 in Anaheim, Calif.

Grace was an instant choice for the makers of the film because she was a close representation of 'Stargirl' from the books. Her interesting and individualistic approach to music is something that sets her apart and adds to the charm of the story. "I definitely relate to Stargirl. I’m not as cool as her but I definitely feel like I never fit in when I went to public school. I definitely related to her but I didn’t have the confidence that she has," she told Inside The Magic

Showrunners

Directed by Julia Hart, this Disney original has been written by Kristin Hahn, who was very emotionally impacted by the story and characters and then she feels the need to adapt it. "Then I feel an enormous responsibility to the author, that is my second feeling, to honor the spirit of the book," she told the site.
