The episode opens amidst the stunning scenery of a snow-clad landscape, where a family approaches Barriss, who is now spending her days as a healing woman.

The couple begs the former Jedi to treat their child since the Empire assaulted their town, tested the child's blood, and now wants to take the child away.

She tells the parents that while her child is not a Jedi, he has potential and that if things had been different in the past, he too would have been brought to the temple by Jedis.

Barriss describes how she had the same symptoms as the child but was trained by the Jedi, who made those days seem like the happiest of her life until darkness overtook her.

Later, she finds out that the family is being followed by someone, so she verifies that and orders her acquaintance and parents to leave the area on her spaceship, which will take them to an unidentified old friend.

As the family frantically runs into the ice cave, Barriss stays behind to buy some extra time for their escape.

Suddenly, an agitated inquisitor, Lyn, also known as the Fourth Sister, appears and wastes no time and starts attacking Barriss, hoping to capture the child.

However, Barriss expertly evades Lyn's attacks without much effort.

Desperate to capture the child, Lyn asks Barriss to let her go into the cave, but Barriss warns her that she could get lost and never be able to return.

Ignoring the warning, Lyn enters the cave, and while chasing the family, she gets lost, allowing the family to escape safely.

As Lyn searches for a way out, Barriss' voiceover urges Lyn to lay down her weapon to escape the cave, but Lyn continues to bicker.

Suddenly, Barriss appears out of nowhere, and Lyn accidentally stabs her in the stomach.

As Barriss falls into Lyn's arms, she implores Lyn to change her ways and come out of the dark. Lyn believes there is no way out of her predicament, but Barriss reminds her that this is what the Empire wants her to think.

Encouraged, Lyn decides to find her own way out of the cave while carrying Barriss' lifeless body.

The scene fades to black as Lyn emerges from the cave with Barriss in her arms.
