'Star Wars: Resistance': Producers confirm two of their main characters Orka and Flix are an openly gay couple

The producers of 'Star Wars: Resistance' have confirmed that two of their main characters Orka and Flix are an openly gay couple. This confirmation makes them the first openly gay couple in the 40-plus year history of the Star Wars franchise. According to Daily Mail, 'Star Wars: Resistance' executive producers Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Brandon Auman appeared on the Coffee With Kenobi podcast, where they confirmed that Orka (Bobby Moynihan) and Flix (Jim Rash) are an LGBTQ couple.
"I think it’s safe to say they’re an item, absolutely," Ridge said on the podcast. They’re absolutely a gay couple and we’re proud of that. We love Flix and Orka." Meanwhile, Auman added Moynihan and Rash, who voice the characters, are 'so wonderful' and that, 'they have the same chemistry' as the characters. Portillo also opined that she was proud Lucasfilm supported the "diversity."
Moynihan said he was waiting to talk about the duo's sexuality since a year-and-a-half. "I have had a sentence prepared for a year and a half," Moynihan explained, "If someone would finally ask me, I would say, 'All I can say is that when Flix says I love you, Orka says I know.' They’re the cutest." The confirmation of this LGBTQ couple comes as LucasFilm's parent company, Disney, has been making marches when it comes to diversity. Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie will be the first LGBTQ superhero in the fourth Thor movie, 'Thor: Love and Thunder', in theaters 2021.
'Star Wars: Resistance' will take place during the events of 'The Last Jedi' leading up to the upcoming 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.' The second and final season is set to premiere on October 6, 2019 on Disney Channel and Disney now.
