'Star Wars: The High Republic - Light of the Jedi': Fans theorize novel could lead to more prequel movies

A new 'Star Wars' novel is in the works and it explores a time period that we've never seen before. Winding the clock back a few hundred years from 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker', 'Star Wars: The High Republic - Light of the Jedi' will be the first proper exploration of the High Republic era of the galaxy.

Comicbook reports that author Charles Soule will be delivering the novel from Del Rey, which is set to hit shelves in August. Not much is known about the plot of the book or the overall High Republic campaign, though the time period has been mentioned in the audio drama 'Dooku: Jedi Lost' and the Marvel Comics releases 'Star Wars' and 'Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren'.

According to Del Rey's description for the book, "The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. Until. . . ."

Since the announcement was made, fans have been taking to Twitter to discuss the new book.

"High Republic confirmed then huh," one fan tweeted. "I love that kind of Star Wars but it is a quite boring time period. I trust Soule but at the same time I'm not over the moon. Still excited though."

Another fan wrote, "The start of the next Phase of Star Wars (High Republic), and I was kinda hoping for a movie, tv show or game to be announced and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen atm."

"I wish they had focused on the Old Republic Era rather than the 'High Republic'," one fan wrote. "I know old canon was chucked out the window, but there's just something so awesome about massive intergalactic wars b/w Jedi & Sith. I want to be optimistic but have been so disappointed so far..."

Yet another fan drew a parallel between the upcoming book and HBO's 'Game of Thrones' prequel series 'House of The Dragon' writing, "Ok when you think about it Game of Thrones and Star Wars ended up on the low side. Now both of them going hundreds of years back to fix the franchise. House of Dragons 300y before the series and now High Republic 400y before Skywalker and it's rumored there will be a movie on it."

The rumors that the next 'Star Wars' movie will be set during the High Republic era have intensified since the book was announced. "I’m all for this aesthetic," one fan tweeted. "Think this pretty much confirms the rumors that the next #StarWars films will be set in the High Republic era too."

"If the next wave of Star Wars movies is indeed set in the High Republic era, well, I hope I'm surprised," another fan wrote. "After Rise of Skywalker I hoped the next series of films would happen further in the future, completely unknown territory, but it's not like I WON'T get irrationally excited."

'Star Wars: The High Republic - Light of the Jedi' is scheduled for release on August 25.
