'Star Trek: Picard': Jeri Ryan returns to the franchise as Seven of Nine and the fans couldn't be happier

Spoiler alert for 'Absolute Candor' - Episode 4 from Season 1 of 'Star Trek: Picard'

Jeri Ryan is back, and the fans are thrilled. Her character, the ex-Borg Seven of Nine from 'Star Trek: Voyager' had been announced to be returning to the series, but how or when she would appear was the question. In the very last moments of this episode, as Jean-Luc Picard's (Patrick Stewart) crew try to out-maneuver and escape attacking ships, a mysterious ship appears to aid them, sacrificing their ship in the process. The pilot asks to be beamed aboard, revealing Seven of Nine, who tells Picard that he owes her a ship before collapsing. 

Her reappearance has sparked a lot of nostalgia in die-hard 'Star Trek' fans. "I know I will have to watch some #Voyager Seven of Nine/Borg Episodes later Today so chances are good I'll be watching 'Scorpion' again. -And may have to watch 'I, Borg' too," writes one fan on Twitter, referring to classic, Borg-related 'Star Trek' episodes. "Latest episode of 'Star Trek: Picard'? BADASS! @JeriLRyan is in this one! #SpoilerAlert She looks just as good as the last time we saw her in 'Endgame'! Maybe even better! #Engage!" exults another viewer. One fan was ecstatic that her and Picard waste no time in coming face to face, writing, "OMG SHE’S FINALLY BACK 7of9’s first scene and @JeriLRyan is already face to face with @SirPatStew".

A viewer noted that this episode marked another one featuring additions to Picard's eclectic crew: "Picard is getting the band back together! I wonder if this season is just going to be Picard cruising around the universe picking up hitchhikers?"

Overall, the fans seem rather happy with this episode, with one fan summing up their feelings thus - "I'm loving Star Trek Picard so so much. The visuals are stunning and it really does feel like coming back to a bunch of old friends."

The next episode of 'Star Trek: Picard' airs on February 20, on CBS All-Access.
