'Star Trek: Lower Decks': Meet Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid and the rest of the cast behind this animated comedy
'Star Trek: Lower Decks' boldly goes where no 'Star Trek' television series has gone before: animated comedy. This new television series premieres its 10 episode long series later today, on CBS All Access, home to 'Star Trek: Discovery' and 'Star Trek: Picard.' We take a look at the voice cast behind the all new characters of this all new comedy telling the untold stories of the ensigns on the lower decks.
Tawny Newsome
Tandy Newsome plays Ensign Mariner, who is seen weilding a Klingon Bat'leth in promotional pictures. This is not Newsome's first foray into a space comedy, as she also stars in 2020's 'Space Force.' She's also known for her roles on 'Ride or Die' and 'Brockmire.'
Jack Quaid
Jack Quiad plays Ensign Boimler. Quaid is a writer, actor and producer known for his roles on 'The Boys,' 'Vinyl,' 'The Hunger Games,' and 'Aberrant.' He's also lent his voice to the 'Middle Earth' video games, as Dirhael. The son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, Jack Quiad has been on sets for the entirey of his life.
Noel Wells
Noel Wells plays Ensign Tendi, a green-skinned alien woman. Noel Wells is an actress, writer, editor, composer, and more - there is no aspect of production that she's not had her hand in. As an actress, she's best known for her roles on 'Master of None,' 'Mr. Roosevelt' and as a sketch comedy performer on 'Saturday Night Live.' She has provided voice talent for 'Craig of the Creek,' 'Wander Over Yonder,' and 'Gentlemen Lobsters.'
The series also stars Eugene Cordero as Engisn Rutherford, Fred Tatasciore as Lieutenant Shaxs, Dawnn Lewis as Captain Carol Freeman, Jerry O'Connell as Commander Jack Ransom, and Gillian Vigman as Doctor T'ana. According to the series synopsis, "STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS will focus on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet's least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi must keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies."
