'Skin Decision: Before and After': Nurse Jamie and Dr Nazarian remove over 2 pounds of skin from Katrina
The first episode of 'Skin Decision: Before and After' focuses on Katrina's story of horror and trauma resulting from an incident that happened in 2017. She was left with multiple scar marks on her arms, legs, and torso and she came to Dr Sheila Nazarian and Nurse Jamie to help get rid of them.
Katrina revealed that she was shot nine times in the face and every limb of her body except for the right leg. On March 23, 2017, she came back home from work and saw her ex-husband with a gun in his hand. He started to shoot at her and when he noticed her crawling towards the door, pointed the gun towards himself and took his own life in front of Katrina. She also revealed that she lost both her daughters in the incident and only found out about it after a few days when she woke up in the hospital bed from where she planned their funeral. "When I look at these scars, that's what I think of. I think of lies, betrayal, and hurt. Every day is a reminder of my children that aren't alive anymore."
Apart from the scars, Katrina wanted to get rid of the tattoo that bore her ex-husband's name. All those scars and the tattoo were a reminder of what he'd done and she wanted them to be taken off her person. She also revealed that another reason she was so enthusiastic to get the corrective surgery was because of the prodding eyes of people who'd ask her about her scars all the time. All of that made her very uncomfortable and she only wanted to share her story on her own terms with the people she felt comfortable with.
After listening to her story, Nurse Jamie and Dr Nazarian came up with a plan that included both surgical and non-surgical procedures. Laser resurfacing, micro-needling, pigment laser were some of the nonsurgical treatment processes that Nurse Jamie implemented on her. However, the scar that ran vertically on her torso required a cut and Nazarian gave her a Fleur-De-Lis tummy tuck, taking out 2.2 pounds of skin from her stomach area. The procedure not only helped her get rid of the scar but also smoothened the stretch marks surrounding it as well to give her the perfect hourglass shape.
