MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Sigourney Weaver recently appeared on ‘The View’ and answered Hot Topics co-host Sara Haines‘ question about what she told Hugh Grant after his infamous “scrotum” joke at the 2023 Oscars in March. “He looked a little unsure of how it went over,” Weaver revealed.

“And I said, ‘Don’t worry. You were the best-looking scrotum out there,’” the actress said, eliciting peals of laughter from the audience and the panel. After the laughter died down, co-host Whoopi Goldberg told her guest, “Sometimes it’s just that word of wisdom that you need.”

Oscars 2023: Hugh Grant slammed for being 'rude' to Ashley Graham

What did Hugh Grant say?

Grant took the stage at the 95th Academy Awards to present the award for Best Production Design alongside his 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' co-star Andie MacDowell. The actor then cracked an NSFW joke to highlight the differences between him and MacDowell. “We’re actually here to do two things. The first is to raise awareness about the vital importance of using a good moisturizer,” Grant began.

“Andie has been wearing one every day for the last 29 years. I’ve never used one in my life,” he continued. He then referred to MacDowell and said, “Still stunning,” before signaling toward himself and saying, “Basically a scrotum.”

‘She liked the joke’

Grant also appeared on ‘The View’ after the Oscar Awards and admitted to feeling nervous about delivering the risque joke. However, the actor mentioned Weaver and said that she provided him comfort and helped him calm down with some immediate words of assurance. “I was nervous — I wrote that joke and I was extremely nervous about it. I think I got away with it,” Grant told ‘The View’ co-hosts during a March 16 episode.

“Sigourney Weaver said to me afterward, ‘You don’t look like a scrotum,’” he revealed. “She liked the joke. That relaxed me. But I was very nervous about it,” the ‘Notting Hill’ star shared. Weaver was not the only celebrity to poke fun at Grant’s Oscars joke. After his initial post-Oscars appearance on ‘The View', Goldberg told Grant that his joke was “funny as hell.” She even gave him a bottle of moisturizer and said, “You can never have too much moisturizer.”

While Grant initially said Weaver told him he does not "look like a scrotum" in response to his Oscars joke, Weaver's version of the comment revealed that she called the actor the "best-looking scrotum" in response to his line.
