'Sid and Judy': Release date, plot, cast and everything you need to know about the Judy Garland docufilm

'Sid and Judy' is a Showtime documentary series based on the book by Judy Garland's third husband Sid Luft titled 'Judy and I: My Life with Judy Garland'

'Sid & Judy', the Showtime documentary, was announced July 23 and the release informed the documentary would include previously "unreleased voice recordings of Judy Garland and Sid Luft." The docufilm is produced by Diane Becker and Academy Award-winning producer John Battsek of Passion Pictures. John Kimble, Philip Sandhaus, Bryan O’Connell, Joel Gotler and Erik Skinner are the executive producers on the project.

Showtime's docufilm will air October 18, at 8 p.m. ET.

According to the network, the film will explore "the dramatic career and personal struggles of the talented and tragically short-lived entertainer Judy Garland through rare concert footage, never-heard-before voice recordings and personal photos." The docufilm is based on the autobiography penned by actor Judy Garland's third husband Sid Luft titled 'Judy and I: My Life with Judy Garland'.

The statement further added, "Through Luft's observations, only recently made public and Garland’s own words emerges a poignant portrait of a woman whose vulnerabilities were exploited by an industry she helped build, but whose resilience, entrepreneurship and unfailing commitment to her creative gifts kept her fighting."

Cast:

Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh 

The actor well-known for his performances in shows such as 'Mad Men' and film such as 'Baby Driver' will be one of the narrators of the documentary. Jennifer Jason Leigh, who was nominated for an academy award for her work in 2015 film 'The Hateful Eight' where she portrayed Daisy Domergue, will be the other narrator of the documentary film. 

Creator: 

Stephen Kijak who has previously directed episodes of series such as 'Brave' and 'Queer Eye' has directed the docufilm for Showtime.
