This story contains major spoilers for Season 2 Episode 1 of Hulu's 'Shrill' titled 'Camp'

After delivering a powerful Season 1, Hulu's hit show 'Shrill' returns to the streaming platform with Season 2. Annie Easton's (Aidy Bryant) journey of realizing her true potential and strength and breaking free of the shackles of society is something that resonates with almost every woman today. In Season 1, Annie begins her journey as a doormat and emerges victorious at the end of the episode — striking a chord with women across the country.

In Season 2, the makers of 'Shrill' explore how Annie deals with this newfound confidence and strength.

After confronting her troll The Awesome (Beck Bennett) for harassing her online, Annie is pumping with confidence. A screaming face-off with the troll and one giant cement planter through his car window later, on the adrenaline high, Annie flees town into the woods with her boyfriend Ryan (Luka Jones). They spend a romantic night at a camping site that Ryan used to frequent as a young boy. The encounter with her troll leaves Annie in high spirits. She is thrilled by what she has just done, something she never imagined herself doing. And it shows just how much the adversities of the first season have shaped her.

Everything is going well and romantic (by Ryan's standards for he even goes down on Annie's "two-day p****" unlike the man-child-like behavior he displayed in Season 1). But they are called back by Annie's frantic father Bill Easton (Daniel Stern), who had only just discovered that her mother Vera (Julia Sweeney) has fled to Vancouver overnight.

So, Annie and Ryan rush back home from the campsite where Annie's last few decisions come to light — quitting her job, meeting her online troll all alone in person and fleeing to the woods without informing anyone — not even Fran (Lolly Adefope).

Bill and Fran cannot understand why Annie would quit a perfectly normal job. As they repeatedly question her about the logic behind her decision, reality comes crashing down upon Annie and she realizes the gravity of her reckless actions.

She then promises them that she knows what she is doing. "I got this," she keeps repeating, almost as if she is not assuring those around her but herself.

All episodes of Season 2 of 'Shrill' are currently streaming on Hulu.
