LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After taking the world by storm with the 2019 movie ‘Hustlers’, Jennifer Lopez is back to steal your hearts in Amazon Prime Video’s romantic-comedy ‘Shotgun Wedding’. Set on an island resort, the movie primarily focuses on the wedding of a couple, Tom (Josh Duhamel) and Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) that go horrifyingly wrong when pirates take over the entire venue. Now, it’s time for Tom and Darcy to take the extreme route and defeat the enemies to save their loved ones. The movie has an interesting premise and an interesting title and fans will love how Lopez steals the show with her star power, but does that make the movie worth watching? Let’s take a look.

The movie starts with Tom and Darcy getting ready for their wedding. The wedding is taking place at the Mahal Island Resort in the Philippines and the guests have started to arrive for the special occasion. Tom is in charge of planning the whole wedding and wants everything to be perfect. On the other hand, Lopez is an anxious bride who never actually wanted a lavish wedding and just wanted to spend her life with her fiancé. Even though they are happy with each other, the couple is feeling jittery ahead of the destination wedding. But things go upside down when Darcy’s ex Sean (Lenny Kravitz) arrives for the wedding and complicate everything. While they are trying to sort out some issues, the masked gunmen arrive at the venue and all the guests are taken, hostage. All Tom and Darcy need to do now is to stick together and defeat the enemies to save their loved ones.

From ‘The Wedding Planner’ to ‘Shotgun Wedding’, Jennifer Lopez’s most heartwarming wedding movies

‘Shotgun Wedding’ is nothing new and we have seen a lot of movies in the genre that feel the same. However, one thing that the movie does well is that it keeps things entertaining and never dulls away. The lead actors keep on facing one crazy situation after another and that only stops when the movie finishes. Until then, they are busy having arguments with each other, fighting with the pirates, and also trying to have a wedding.

The chemistry between Lopez and Duhamel is amazing and is one of the strongest aspects of the movie. But let’s just be real for a moment and say that this movie rested on Lopez. Duhamel is really charming but gets overshadowed by her star power. She gets all the time to show her skills in the movie and is the center of attraction in some of the most entertaining bits of the film. Lopez has done a wonderful job as Darcy and proves that filmmakers can give her anything and she will deliver every single time.

Duhamel is great and amusing as Tom. However, the real MVP of the movie is none other than Jennifer Coolidge. She portrays the role of Tom’s mother and flies away with another stunning performance. Her well-known deadpan delivery is on-point and takes everyone by storm. She can’t do anything wrong.

Even though the movie is filled with clichés, ‘Shotgun Wedding’ has some really good moments that will keep viewers hooked. The movie includes a lot of laugh-out-loud sequences that are performed really well by the cast members. Overall, the film doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it manages to pack some successful punches by being overwhelmingly entertaining.
